I think the machine is more of a metaphor for society/government/authority.

The other day the hubbie got a drink from one of those out dated coffee vending machines. It never dropped the cup so coffee went flying everywhere.

I'm pretty sure it refers to anarchy or defiance against government, media and corporations. The rage being a suggestion to demonstrate or oppose when necessary.
