I have a strong sense that I have a very important purpose in life, and it's near me, but I can't find out what it is.
What are some ways someone could discover their purpose in life?
Have you found yours?

Life is a long time.
Do what you love, love what you do. What you love and do may change based on the day, month, year, or period in your life, but as long as you're contributing to the world you're worth it. I personally hope to go into science/engineering in the future, but currently I like to play piano and do math!

Final comment (i'm quoting an unknown source):
Live as if you'll die tomorrow,
Dream as if you'll live forever.

Mine is writing. I love to write and share ideas. So I am here. But I've written a lot over the years. It's all my stuff. Some published but most not. Do I really care? Not really? Why? Because I fulfilled my passion when I was doing it.

You may have read the diary of Anne Frank. Everything you read in that book is her passion. Life.

Whatever your long term purpose is may I suggest this guide for you.

A goal without a plan is still a dream.

In between now and the time you find it there are many other daily purposes that will never leave that long term purpose even when you find it. Like people, and taking time out with them and for yourself.

Good luck!

Just ask yourself what you like to do more than anything else. Then study it and perfect it to the absolute best of your abilities. It doesn't have to be grand like finding a cure for cancer. It might be building birdhouses. You must love doing it above all else and become a master at it. Remember your life purpose need only please you. Not anyone else. If it has positive results for others that's great.

Fortunately I have found mine. I always loved tennis. As far back as I can remember I waned to teach tennis. While the kids I played with wanted to become professional players, I just wanted to teach. I've been teaching for 15 years now and have built an outstanding reputation. Other people see it as a great job to have, but it is very serious to me that I am the best above all others. I constantly strive to learn more so I my students will be the best. This is a good example of how a simple game has come my lifes goal and provides an excellent income as well. Find what you love and you can't fail.

I think that finding your purpose in life takes a lot of reflection on your self..actual time spent just thinking about you, who you are, who you've been, who you want to be, what you're good at, what you enjoy. I recently dropped out of a prestigious architecture school, basically due to a breakdown. I loved working on projects, but the deadlines and restrictions of college were eating on my nerves. It didn't feel right..and I'm a hard worker, very familiar with deadlines and pressure from high school and even grade school. So I went home and cashiered, while I waited for something purposeful to hit me. I have decided that I'm meant for some type of entrepreneurial work. I excel when I'm my own boss. Also, I love to do art. I always thought about being an artist but didn't think that it sounded official/lucrative enough to be encouraged by my family/friends/self. I think when you're all confused to begin with, it can be really difficult to prompt yourself with the right questions for making progress. I found an external source to be very helpful. I obtained products written by a successful entrepreneur named Henry Penix. He has some very helpful material that isn't too expensive. I think something like that, as in an objective program that you can work through, is a really eye-opening solution. Also, since it requires that you invest a bit of money, you're more apt to immediately start taking steps towards having your future in your own hands. He has a blog(free), too, in which he shares a lot of inspirational and helpful tips on self, relationships, and success.

Our human nature demands that our life be worth living. Things that have purpose also have worth and things that serve no purpose have no worth. So purpose and worth go together.

Unless there is a God, our lives have no purpose. Nature alone cannot give purpose. Evolution can no more give purpose to humans than a volcano can give purpose to a lava flow.

Without God, we can still invent pretend-purposes but in the back of our minds we will always know that our purpose was invented just to make us feel better. Invented pretend-purposes mask the underlying problem just like aspirin masks the pain of a toothache.

If God exists, then He must have put our need for worth/purpose into our human nature to point us to Him. If we don't know our purpose then the first thing to do is to go to the only One who can give true purpose. So seeking God is our first task.

Maybee your life purpose is just to live........If you want to discover your purpose then ask yourself what gives you meaning in life.

Meaning is purpose and the purpose of life is to experience and create, this is also known as existential reality. You could also ask your higher self (unified self/ god self) to assist you in this process. If you don't believe in such things try suspending belief and disbelief and asking this part of you. This can be done through many methods including - prayer, meditation or just simply asking yourself (but intending to speak/ communicate with your higher self - intention is the key). Don't forget that you are the creator or co-creator (with this higher power/ self) in your life.

Maybee you need some more life experiences and understanding to peice together the fragments of the meaningful picture you are creating. Life is a jigsaw.

Hope this is of help........GOOD LUCK CHUCK.

I will share a quote with you that helped me find the courage to try and find my purpose in life. I hope that when you read it, it impacts you, guides you and gives you the answers to your question.
" Trust yourself. YOU KNOW MORE than you think you do." Dr. Spock.

What does your preferred religion tell you about one's purpose in life. There could be many and you could be pigeon hole-ing yourself into believing there is only one purpose for each person.

Think multiples. Multiple purposes. Multiple stages in your life. We are constantly changing, constantly growing, meeting new people, being in new situations. I strongly believe I have many purposes here so I only give you few examples.

I believe we serve a purpose in each person's life we meet. Perhaps to teach them something about them self they will need to know for the next phase in their life. Life is extremely complicated and there are many layers. It's incomprehensible.

You don't "discover" it; you define it. It is yours to define, so waiting for your "ship to come in" will get you no where.
