I just got a new bunny, very cute, young and loves to jump all around. However when its in my room hopping around, to relax it sometimes just rolls over onto its back and relaxes there, like its sleeping. When I come over to pick it up it rolls right over again to an upright position. It scares me sometimes because it looks as if its playing dead! Rabbit experts....is this normal? Is there something wrong with its inner ear?

he is just lying on his side stretched out, this is normal. Rabbits do a "Dead Bunny Flop", it look like they are dead but they aren't, they are relaxed. My rabbits that I have had for over 2 years rarely DBF, but they do it.

If your rabbit had an inner ear problem, he would have balance problems and his head would tilt, if that were to happen, then you would need to get him to the vet. But don't worry, he seems fine now.

Congrats on having a new bunny that is content with his surroundings to expose himself and be vulnerable. Try not to disturb him.

Nope nothing wrong i dont think, it must just be that relaxed, i would take it as a compliment. I have had rabbits, that were handled alot, that u could pick up and flip over on their back and it was like they went into a trance, it was great for looking them over or to find out if pregnant or in season....or fleas or anything!Keep playing with it and maybe u can hoold her too.. :)

My baby bunny is almost 7. He still does this. I still occasionally have a fearful moment where I think he's flopped over dead.

It's nothing to be worried about. This just shows that he's very relaxed and comfortable in his environment.
