Crack open a book and read about USSR (1917-1991) or People Republic of China (1936?-Present). Both were powerhouses when it came to communism and last time I checked they were in the real world (sorry couldn't help myself). Now be carefull on compareing communism with the USSR. These were some pretty hardline people that performed purges on their own people. All the historic examples of communism usualy have secret polices and errode away civil liberties. With out the element of corruption, the system might work. Though, I wouldn't wager way of life on it.
I dont claim to be a subject matter expect, but I hope the following information will help you.
Communism is the prinicple of collective property by the goverment. The system works as long as there is no corruption (which even republic and democracies fall vicitim to also) and everyone is willing to pull their weight. The system brakes down when people use the system against itself and still collect the benifits of it. While it is supposed to be a classesless scoiety, there still are classes involved. There will always be the poor, the middle class, and the elitests just as in any government.
Maybe if every government in the world was a communist state it could work since the need for money would be no longer needed, but as long as there is capitalism, communist states need money to trade goods for.
You would most likely recieve vouchers that would be used to collect items that you need for home. Sorta like food stamps in the US. They would only be able to be used on certin items and certin things would be rationed to ensure that everyone has the oppertunity to get said goods.

That is the major drawback to Communism. It sounds fine on paper but when put into practice it simply does not work. Capitalism with elements of Socialism is the best method. We use it here in the US, although the US is mostly a capitalist society. Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, Disability, Police Departments, Fire Departments, etc. are all socialistic models that work.
Communism takes away the people's incentive to do for themselves when possible, and therefore they see no reason to work hard if they do not receive personal gain by their work. Plus, there will always be rich and poor, no matter which kind of government a country uses. It is just the way the world works. Communism claims to equalize the population, but this is a fallacy, it simply is not true. There will always be the elite in any society.

Communism works, but only on a small scale. A family is a communism. Some people work to bring in resources, and others don't work, but everyone has equal access to the community resources.
However, this only works in a small community with very strong interpersonal ties. And even then it doesn't work a lot of times (look at our divorce rate).
The only way it could work on a large scale would be in the absence of government (anarchy) where nobody decided how to divide up the resources. Each person would only take what they need and nothing more. However, this supposes the existence of a community of humans that are not human. By nature we are competitive, self-interested, and envious. Communism can never work on a large scale.

Communism is part of the root word, commune. There are many fine examples of communism working in the world today. The Kibbutz (sp?) in Israel is an example of communism working. In America, the Shakers were communist if one is to break down the word to it's true root meaning, commune. Throughout America's history there have been many communes. They work great on a small level. They were pretty democratic overall because it is about each according to his or her need and from each according to his or her ability. But they don't work on a national or international level. At least no one has figured out how to make them work yet. You just never know though, there may be a way. But I think many people have to change their mindset. And, it definitely doesn't work in a dictatorship scenerio that we saw during the days of Stalin. That was not communism in the true sense. Not even according to how Marx had in mind.

it wouldn't. been there and it is not preety. Here is the way it operates. The top says everyone is equal as long as I am above you. I cringe when ignorant fools think that communism or even socialism is the way to go. They haven't lived in it. I have and that is why I am here. Why do you think that millions of people try to escape communist countries risking their life to come to a free country? hundreds of thousands of bodies if not millions are lining the bottom of oceans, danube rivers an others trying to escape from cuntries like Poland, Romania, Cuba, China, Vietnam etc. If those fools want to know the real answer, talk to people that lived it, dont believe some idiocracies spewed by uneducated ignorants.

Imagine you are a farmer who owns a cow, in capitalism, you do the work of feeding and caring for the cow, milking the cow, take the milk to market where someone who wants milk will pay you a price you both agree to. Everyone happy.
Imagine in Communism, the state tells you to be a cow milker, you go to the collective farm where a lot of other peasants have been told to go to milk cows, none have been told to feed or care for the cows so they die. When the government comes for the milk they told you to produce, you show them dead cows and they line you up against the barn and shoot you for being counter-revolutionaries.

I read an editorial in local paper. Compare: If you had home where water was rationed at 100 gallons a day. If it were used up, no more water that day.Now if you lived in a sub-division and the daily water allowence was given to the diivision in toto with no individual accounting, would it make a difference in how you used it? Who would be in control? In a situation like this there are always those who cheat: user, neighbor. those who control? Shangrila? Dream on.Nightmare!

The best way is by example:
USSR: 20 million murdered in "purges." political prisoners. State controlled press. No free speech. No protection of law.
China: hundreds of thousands killed in the "cultural Revolution." 300 gunned down iTineman Square (1988) No protection from abitrary arrest or imprisonment for political dissent. Slavery. Child labor.
N. Korea: all of the above--and can't even feed their own people.
THAT'S how communism works in the real world. Not theory--jsut facts.

One old joke describes communism this way "Communism: You have two cows. The government takes them both, and shoots you."
That's not even the punchline. The punchline is "Capitalism: You have two cows. You sell one, and buy a bull."

the government controls everything and they get to decide who gets what. in the real world, communist gov't wants all of its citizens to be at the same level of financial status and minimize the gap between rich & poor. Since it's harder to bring wealth to all of its citizens, the communist's idea is to drive all of its citizens to a state of poverty so that they can still achieve their goal which is "all citizens should be at the same level of financial status".
