We are only born once (carnally) now, to be 'born again' requires repentance, changing ones way, believing on the Lord Jesus Christ... He makes life lucky! Failure comes from making our decisions and actions sinful after birth, years down the road. I am luck to be alive and be a Christian, when many are not chosen -- best answer, or not, still holds credibility 25 years after my birth. : )

I'd rather be alive and doomed than dead and nothing. At least, being alive, I can experience things I never would have gotten to experience if I wasn't ever born. I like new experiences, the good, the bad, the ugly, everything, it makes life worth living, either to enjoy the good times, or work to get out of bad ones.

The fact that so many sperm head for one egg and only a single sperm makes it to the egg and that combination turns into us--in that sense we're lucky to be alive. Once we're born and mature, life becomes what we make of it to a great extent. Everyone suffers to some extent, but if we have the courage to overcome life's obstacles, we can have a worthwhile life. All of life is a miracle; you have already contributed greatly to life through your poetry. You have created forms, expressed love, pain, desire and hope. I'm lucky, at least, to have had the chance to read what you write.

we are neither.
most people think that this is either a gift or a curse because we had no decision in our existance existing, but all other life decisions are ours and therefore we mold our existance into an earth bound heaven or hell.
The real truth though is that we have no decision in anything even when we think we do.
Because the reason for decision has to be presented to us and be at that point in our life before any of us are, no matter if it's been there for years or if it popped up in a split second.
Basically: just because we can bend the tip of chaos doesn't mean we are living a chaos free life. It just depends on how much you enjoy the chaos.

That is a deep question. I mean not just the fact that I am alive. But that the human species exist at all. Especially in light of evolution. Of course a deity would have something else to say about it.
In the past few weeks I have been thinking about life in general. And one of the most amazing things is how diverse it is. Especially if life started out as one single cell on our planet. And then multiplied to the variety that exists now on this earth.
Life in general is not something that is doomed to die. It will find a way to multiply and survive even if a species of life form dies..
Now as far as us humans go that depends on how sane we want to remain to want to make sure our species stays alive.
I say for life itself it is meant to flourish and multiply. For myself I am just a small speck of matter that will convert to energy and be a partaker of giving life to what comes after me.
If I were an evolutionist that is the way I would think.
But for myself as a Christian well it still fits because my soul will be with the God who made life happen in the first place.

Neither. It is not enough to be born or to be alive. One has to do something with his or her life. That person would not be lucky if they made (whether consciously or unconsciously) choices that made life worth living. And that person would not be doomed by his birth but by his choices (whether consciously or unconsciously) if his choices turned out to make him resent his life.
It is important to note that we allow outside environments and circumstances to effect our views towards meaningfulness and meaninglessness. But ultimately the will of man is under control of that man. So that regardless and sometimes in spite of the outside predicament a man or woman still has the choice to live in harmony with what he or she considers to be a right way of living. Therefore allowing that person to consider themselves "lucky" or joyful in their existence.
I would also point out that the will of man is subject to his own awareness of himself and his surroundings. Which is to say the will of a man is subject to his knowledge.
I have come to believe that Jesus is The Lord. And therefore understanding that there is a knowledge that is higher than the shallowness of our own thoughts, and that knowledge is revealed to us by the scripture and the Spirit. Salvation comes through the simplest yet hardest of human endeavors - belief.

I would not say we are lucky to be alive. Because if so, what happened to the unlucky ones?
And I would not think we are doomed. But I can't prove it, that's more a faith-thing.

Your avatar name says it all. Lucky to be born a human with the opportunity to gain wisdom, ignorant of the consequences of not making the effort. Most of humanity remains in willful ignorance of the inescapable interconnectedness with each other and the environment. The consequences are becoming more dire by the day.
Doomed to suffer because of attachment to ignorance.

doomed. to die. but i think since we're born, and here, with others that are doomed, let's count our blessings, shall we? think about the great things we can say to each other right here on this page right now... i know that sounds like elmo on sesame street gunk, but why not? for cripes sakes it's thanksgiving day. give thanks for everything you say now, because 100 years ago, in another country, i would be hanged or beheaded for this. eat some food, talk to people, and deal with all the crap you have to deal with tomorrow. until then happy turkey day! that's all i got.

Lucky to be alive, but on the path unwinding. " From the day we arrive on the planet," And, blinking, step into the sun
There's more to see than can ever be seen
more to do than can ever be done"Ok, sorry, i shouldn't be showing you a Disney song, "circle of life".
