Some people think it helps. You learn how to breathe through the pain and focus your thoughts elsewhere. It's if you want to go natural childbirth. Having had three children, NO I don't think it's worth the cost. To each their own. When you go into labor all you want is the baby out by any means necessary. The labor pains can be intense and you want to rip the head off your husband. You will tell him "never again" and probably call him a bunch of filthy names. Childbirth is a beautiful thing. You won't think about anything you learned in Lamaze class when the baby is ready to come. This is what's likely to happen: You go into labor. Your labor coach is there and ready with encouraging words, ice chips and suckers if allowed and massaging your back. You are sweating profusely and feel like you have to take the biggest dump in your life. OOPS, you get a contraction from south Hell and your partner tells you to breathe baby, don't forget to breathe. You give him a drop dead look and squeeze the life out his hands, you yell " give me drugs and get it out" only to have the doctor tell you you're too far along and Push. Here comes the head, and one more big push....... Your baby boy/girl/twins is out. You will cry and be amazed at the life you just brought into the world. When you see that sweet little face you will forget the rantings. Congrats to you

I think the Discovery channel helped me more.
I was so exited about Lamaze and when it came time for actual delivery hearing everyone follow the rules of the Lamaze book made me want to rip there heads off.
Once I had the epidural I said I would not get all was fine and I had no problem pushing her out.

As a husband I went. Depends on what you mean by worth it. It is easy to practice breathing techniques until the real contractions hit! It was nice to share time with couples going through the same experience to compare notes. I often joked that it is just a chance for the husband to feel like he is contributing to the process. In short you can learn everything from the internet but the social reward was worth it for us. I would not pay for it.

It just all depends when i was a pre-teen i went with my sister so i learned a lot then but when it came to my own i did not go and i have 5 kids now. All you need to do is remain calm as much as possible because in the delivery room anything goes. You can always just read a book or watch the discovery channel. Trust me. I had my first 4 natural and just when all thought my 5th was going to be a breeze it was all hectic and i had to get a cesarean.

It's not worth the money you have to pay. I think they just take advantage of people because everyone says you have to have it. In reality you can get by without it. Just do some research and maybe check out the video from the library. The videos are old so don't buy it, but it can give you some insight on what to expect.

I didnt go to Lamaze with my child.. i was told that it didnt work..but luckyly i had my grandmother there to help me as a coach.. because without it and her my child would of flew out with no doctor! the contractions make you want to push! and when your not concentrating on the contractions its easier to deal with the pain and the sensation to push

Only if you want to be awake for your baby's birth! Yes, it is worth it. It teaches you how to control your body and breathing so you can assist the baby during the birth. By assist I mean, how and when to push your oxygen level is important to the babies oxygen level and you learn how to focus on something other than the pain and that helps you. It also teaches you what to expect during the birth process.

You will learn more by watching the discovery health if you get that station. I watched a baby story and birth day and pregnancy for dummies. You will learn what to expect in all kinds of situations.

Yes, it is very informative and doesn't just teach you 'how to breathe'. The 6 classes I attended covered many topics about childbirth. It's definitely worth it.
