I feel that in the future in about 20 years a lot of the music today will not be listened to. Also, if you look at the majority of sold out concerts are ones that are compilation concerts or old bands like Bruce Springsteen, Eric Clapton etc.

The problem these days is that bands dont get much of a chance to explore musical styles and push themselves to their creative peaks.

A band like Pink Floyd could not make it today, becuase record companies beleive that if you dont have a hit by your second record, then your finished.

It really is ashamed.
There are so many good and talented bands that are pushed to the sides to make room for the flavors of the months.

The other problem is RADIO. Almost all radio stations are owned by just a handfull of corporations, and those corporations have a vested interest in the flavors of the month.

The same way I feel about music of the 70s, 80s, 90s.

A handful of it is utter crap, most of it is hummable but forgettable, and a small slice will continue to be worthy of spins 20, 30 even 40 years down the road.

A few songs from the 2000s I think might hold up for the long haul:

Eminem "Stan"
Flaming Lips "Do You Realize?"
Cake "The Distance"

I'm sure there's others...my brain is shutting down and since I've got my MP3 player on, I'm hearing the Beach Boys "Time to Get Alone" and that makes it hard to think about other songs. :)

I feel that a lot of music today isn't good; at least some bands just don't sound as good at all. I love music from 70s, 80s and 90s even though it's cheesy sometimes!

I love all the bands you listed (except for Skynrd) but I also love alternative bands too, for example, Green Day, Three Days Grace, The Killers, etc.. so I don't think ALL of today's music is terrible. Today's Alternative rock is awesome. but I don't care much for mainstream pop & rap. I've never listened to underground rap, but pop in my opinion sucks. Especially when people like Ashley Tisdale and Kesha get record deals. I mean c'mon, they can't sing for ****.

Interesting question. When i was growing up (80's), my mom used to call what my sister and i listened to "alleged music." i was offended by that, so i thought to myself, "Self, i am always going to respect the music of the future as music and not just crap." Well, i was wrong. So much of what is out there now is CRAP!! i think re-makes are a cop out and require little, if any talent or creativity whatsoever. There is a lot of great music out there...and i do appreciate that. But if it just has a heavy beat, and the "singer" simply repeats the same word or words over and over and over ad nauseum, THAT is NOT music!!! (Unless, of course, it is a drum at a pow wow! Now, THERE is some cool music!) i cannot imagine a "classic rap" station. The idea makes me giggle! Best wishes!!

There are a few I like today, but most will not be around in 20 years. I still like Tull, Moody Blues, Genesis, Pilce, etc.

These days, I like Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, but even they have been around for a while.

For me, theres no comparison to the older music. Today's music is terrible and rap sucks! Thats my take on it. Pretty much at the start of the 90's up to the present, its been downhill.

I think the music in todays society sucks balls. Its all about the 80's for me. Michael Jackson, Bon Jovi, Guns and Roses, Wham, Dexy's Midnight Runners, and Earth Wind and Fire.
