Off a spring board or platform?

Off a platform the diver is above the water at the height of the platform. The diver then uses the force of muscle contraction in his legs to jump up to a bit higher elevation.

The apogee of the jump is the jump height plus the height of the platform.

On a spring board. the board is a height above the water to start with. The diver then uses muscle contraction to jump and the energy is then stored in the board. This gives the diver a second opportunity to contract muscles and to use the energy stored in the board from the first jump to gain even more altitude.
