Nope, our comapny started that policy a while ago to archive all emails, they dont sit there and read them all, but in case of legal issue in the future they will have retained written transactions

It is very legal. The email belongs to the company and its being used on the companies network. There is no right to privacy in this case.

No, it's perfectly legal. (Sorry, I misread the original question as "Is it "legal" for him to do it) Any email you send via your employers computer, or on your own computer through his Internet connection, can legally be read by him, whether it's on your company email account, OR on a personal email account just using his equipment.
Not only is it legal, it's normal. MOST companies at least scan their employees email, and some use computer programs that search them all for "keywords"

not if you are looking at it at work, if it is at home, they cant
when you are in the workplace, they can look at what you are doing on your computer without you knowing it
you are in a public place, and your rights are decreased dramaticaly
the idea is at work you should be working, and they can check on you, cuz in your contract it dosent give you permission to check ur e-mail. and they can check if you are breaking the rules of a contract.
