I think it would have to be Charlie Parker because he was the greatest innovator ever. He was kind of like the Bach of jazz. What he started has continued into every jazz style there is, still to this day. He basically wrote the book on improvisation. He laid the foundation for all of the jazz music and all of the musicians that came after him.
