Orlando Cabrera is a gold glover sure but Angels got Chone Figgins to play at SS when they acquire a guy like Miguel Cabrera. They could also go for Miguel Tejada and convert him to 3B ala A R O D style.
John Garland is very underrated. He's an work horse and he will win games for you. Great acquisition. !!

How is John Garland not a work horse? I'm not trying to jinx him but he has pitched 6 straight seasons for 190 innings or more !! 4.00-4.50 ERA in AL is not BAD (not saying its great) but you want someone who can eat innings in that lineup.
besides, when garland is good he is good. He has averaged about one CG shutout per season. When a guy can eat innings and give you 4.00-4.50 ERA in AL you take it and run.

Good trade. You can never have enough quality pitching.

I think this is a good trade for both sides. The White Sox need a new shortstop and Cabrera fills that need. While the Angels could go after Tejada or Cabrera, an even better idea and one Scoscia was talking about today is bringing up either Erick Aybar or Brandon Wood from the minors, two of the top prospects in the Majors. This allows Figgy to stay and not have to give up any prospects or other players to get Tejada/Cabrera.

okay first of all there is no way that chone figgins is gonna play shortstop. either aybar or brandon wood is gonna play that position if we get like miguel cabrera. and this trade was a really bad trade for the Angles. Why would you want another starting pitcher who is not even that good, when you have 2 Cy Young candidates: John Lackey and Kelvim Escobar. We also have Jered Weaver and Joe Saunders. OC is the greatest fielding shortstop and was like 3rd best hitter in the team. Bad trade for the Angels.

Great trade for both teams. Other than Boston, I think the Angels have the second best rotation in baseball. Sometimes Garland's outings aren't pretty, but the guy wins. He will give you 15-18 wins every year.
Cabrera is underrated. Solid offensively and defensively. He is now the White Sox second best player in the infield behind Paul Konerko.

I think the Angels got the better of the trade. Cabrera is a Gold Glover, but he's a low-OBP, low-power guy whose absence won't really hurt that lineup.
The Angels needed a workhorse, and they got one at a pretty good price. They can replace Cabrera fairly easily, whereas they would have had to pay a lot of money to pick up a guy like Garland through some other means.
Dryankee - When was Cabrera ever a .310-.320 guy? Last season was his career-best at .301, and his OBP is barely .320 for his career. He's overvalued as a hitter.

I think it's a fair trade and Garland does eat innings up. Cabrera was overrated I think so they traded an overrated player for an underrated one. Good deal by the Angels.
However Tejada is off the roids now and his production is slipping. Getting him would be a waste for any team. He's got 1 year left on him... maybe. Miguel Cabrera would cost them a lot... Santana and Figgins or something of that nature. There's no way they are going to do that deal. Figgins was amazing last year and very versitile. I think they only need a few more spare parts. They'll be fine.

Cabrera for Garland is not a good trade for the Angels if that is where it stops. However, if their intentions are to get Miguel Cabrera than it turns out very well.

I dont like it very much. Although I agree that Garland is a little underrated, he is not that great(ERA too high). They should have traded someone like Maecer Izturiz (sp) for an even better pitcher. Cabrera is a good .310-.320 and great defensively.

That is surping to hear that the Chicago White Sox traded Jon Garland, (yes is name is spelled this way), for Orland Cabrera, I even checked out his full name there is no H in it. I know that you are used to spelling it this way. But lke all trades, I don't know how this will all play out for both teams, we will have to see. He played his whole carrier with the Chicago White Sox, even through he was drafted in 1997 by the Chicago Cubs, and traded to the White Sox a year later. But I wonder how the Chicago White Sox ill fill his spot n the roation. But hy at least he will get to go back to US Cellular Field, they could have traded to a National League team, the like the Philadephia Phllies, which seems to me like that is the team that the Chicago White Sox have done trades with, but at the most he could have made his homecoming to Chicago at Wrigley Field, bnut now he has to miss out not only Sox Fest, and along with any other White Sox event, but also the interleague series with the Chicago Cubs.

As a White Sox fan, I am very happy. Garland is an average pitcher. That is it. Average. He is a low strikout pitcher too. His best year was 2005. Every year before and after was average at best. Did I mention he was average at best?
