You are fine. At Joe Louis you will not have any problem. During concerts the streets are filled with people just like you and police. Have a great time.

Like most things you do in life, if you pay attention, drive safely and use good judgment in everything you do, you will probably be fine. As far as the safety of downtown Detroit and the area where Joe Louis Arena is, you're much safer when there's a big event going on than you are in the neighborhoods because there is safety in numbers and because the Detroit Police always keep a good presence at the big events. I wouldn't worry, and I would enjoy the adventure.

There is nothing I hate more than the media always saying you are going to be killed the minute you drive into Detroit. I'm not saying that I would walking around there at night by myself, but Downtown is safe, especially by the Joe, and especially at a concert.

Downtown Detroit is infact safer than than the national average city in USA and police are always around espically when a concert or major event is going on. Just use good judgement and you'll be fine. Don't believe everything the media says.

Downtown if fine. take 75 north to the joe luis exit. there is plenty of parking in the garage and in the neighoring areas.
Just dont venture into the subburbs by fort and schafer areas.. keep downtown, and your fine.

No one is going to hurt you. I haven't been hurt for over 20 years that I've been living downtown, so I doubt that you'll get hurt in one night with your friends.

only advice is bring an Adult with you,,,,
keep your ID on you at all times and everything in your front pockets,,,
and don't wear anything to flashy (like expensive jewelry )
