I have a civil state tax lien (NC) that stemmed from a criminal charge 7 years ago. The lawyer who handled my case said he would handle the lien as well, but I don't think he did. Is there a statue of limitation in NC that the state has to collect this debt? If so, what is it and what do I need to do? Please help!

You don't mention what type of "state taxes" are involved. Therefore the only thing you are going to get are guesses. 25 year old garnishments are a bit unusual it would be interesting to know what the specific circumstances are. If it is income tax the SOL does not state until you have filed or the state has assessed you the tax.
