question:
list and explain the various types of committees in congress. which is most common? are they different in the house than in the senate?

Why don't you look on the Senate and House web pages? They will list them all and tell you what they are responsible for ("Ways and Means" is very important in the House for example. Can you guess why?)

My personal favorite committee is the House sub-committee for funding of the perverted arts.
