A fence would be useless. The only way to stop the influx would be to militarize the border with a shoot to kill policy.
I am exposed to many, many illegals 5 days a week. We work for ultra wealthy people who crave the cheap labor.
These illegals (many of whom I am friends with) laugh at our border 'security'. I have often heard people asking where someone is only to hear that they have been caught and sent back, but not to worry, they'll get by the border patrol soon enough.
A fence is a joke, unless there are trigger happy soldiers patrolling it.
I'm not necessarily promoting this idea, but lets get real, they do not take it seriously...because it's not serious.
Slap the hand and send them back, only to pick them up again tomorrow,if they don't elude you.

The President made an oath to protect the United States of America. Actually he flubbed the oath of office and when he did give it correctly with Chief Justice Roberts, he was not putting his hand on the Bible after all. So, in reality, Obama figures he has free reign to do whatever he wants to. The Senators want the border secured... well, how about that. Obama wants Hispanics to vote for him, so he doesn't really care about our borders being secured. These Senators keep introducing bills that may or may not pass, but most certainly, will probably not be enforced if passed. McCain's bill asked for 6,000 troops, and Obama sent 1200.... not even the half asked for. I've mothered 3 kids through their Jr. High years...full of self-absorbed, just barely out of concrete developmental thinking stage. The Obama administration reminds me of those years that I would actually rather forget about. They're not fun to go through with kids, but when a whole entire administration is so self-absorbed and out-of-touch with reality, it gets quite wearying!

WHY for 20 years has no body paid attention to the laws? When did "illegal" alien become Ok pass alien anyway? Driver's Licenses?
That fence is a joke in my opinion. Walls do not keep people out. DC now is a Democratic one so look at your folks on turkeys r us holiday w/out funding our troops... so let them eat pork. And give away military secrets?
I know the fence was under construction. Beyond there? Politics, both sides , as usual. Teddy Kennedy may pass away b4 we see a resolve to this issue!

The Dunken Hunter Fence morphed into a contract for Boeing Predator Drones.
With Drones flying the border the Bush administration can spend way more money with the same results.

Well, considering that they don't even enforce the OLD laws it's no surprise that George "Only Complete And Total Amnesty Will Do" Bush has done little more than sit on his hands the entire time. He simply does NOT want to stem the flow of illegal immigrants. Industry demands cheap labor and W aims to please.

Because building a really big wall isn't going to do much good for the US' relationship with South America. Many of the South American countries (Cuba and Venezuela, for example) dislike us enough as it is.

Yeah they spend billions of OUR dollars supporting illegal aliens but they make such a big deal out of paying, enforcing and protecting the borders. There should be absolutely no question in this.

The only laws that they have passed and acted upon are the ones that hurt this Country.
After reading the other posts it goes to show the ignorance by blaming only Bush. Is it not the democrats also that have made every attempt to allow illegals to stay in this Country? BOTH PARTIES ARE GUILTY.... BOTH!!!!!!

Bush's job is to do the bare minimum that it takes to keep the American population at bay. Americans get mostly scent... and very little steak.
The focus of the Bush administration is making money and gaining power for friends. "We the people" is just a pesky neighbor that keeps coming to the door looking for a cup of sugar.

Because their top priority is the war, right now. It does not even matter that terrorist could potentially get into our unguarded borders. I guess Bush think that is is more likely that some insurgent in Iraq with no funding could attack us more easily than Al Qaeda members who can slip through our borders from Mexico.
