I was told by my doctor that if I had four or more contractions in an hour, I needed to go to the hospital. Get up and walk around. If the contractions go away, they are BH. If the contractions keep coming and are frequent (4 or more in an hour) call your doctor or the birthing center. Good Luck!!

I was like you have back pains and contractions here and there for 24 hours and was told by my doctor that unless they are 5 minutes apart and consistent like that for over an hour to not bother going to the hospital. I waited and when they were 5 minutes apart for over an hour, I went to the hospital, and they wanted to send me home. I had to walk around the hospital for 2 hours to get more dilated so they wouldn't send me home.

Call your OB right this second and tell him/her what's happening!!
Edit-don't fool with timing contractions. I lost my first child at 23 weeks along because I thought if it was just random pains and cramps it didn't mean anything. I will regret that forever. If it turns out to be nothing, your dr. will still be glad to know it's happening.

Look, we can tell you anything. Be safe and call your doctor or go to the hospital. It sounds like labor but I am not a medical professional. Better to be safe than sorry. Good luck!

Well, I'm not a doctor but it sure sounds like the beginning of labor to me. Have you advised your physician? Is the hospital aware? Do you have someone with you, a phone?

sounds like you're in early stage labour. I had exactly the same as you're describing with my second and by the time I went to hospital the midwife told me I was 6cm dilated. my son was born 3 hours later

you could be... just call your doctor and describe what you just wrote and he'll tell you what he wants you to do... if you're pre-term (depending on how early you are) you will probably be told to goto the hospital just so they can monitor you and the baby for a while. better safe than sorry. good luck! :)

Probably not. My wife had the same thing happen and the doctor told her it was just her muscles getting ready (exercising, if you will).
However, you should speak to your doctor about this. Don't rely on Yahoo! Answers when it comes to your and your baby's life.
