this is mostly in response to the answers about getting money and food stamps - do you really think that living on barely enough money to exist is fun to live on. and no you don't get that much in food stamps either. It's stressful, to live on such a little amount of money and try to feed and cloth your kids.
in answer to the question, sometimes life jerks the rug out from under you - you could afford it and then something happens - IE. extreme or chronic illness - that makes it hard to afford it. And because we value families. And I'm not sure that people anticipated the cost of gas, food, and other things to go up so much. What one could afford yesterday, may not be affordable today. And, because in general, although we value families, we don't seem to value education, and our children are not taught to think, just regurgitate. And because people don't take the time to educate their own children about the cost of raising a child. Because we are biologically programed to reproduce. Because........................... people don't believe in abortion, but believe in sending "our" sons to war.

Because: 1. Society encourages women to have more children, 2. A male dominated society means fewer financial options (good jobs) available for women 3. No access to abortion in some countries and places (including South Dakota) 4. Poor access to family planning 5. Religion discourages contraception and family planning 6. Adoption is expensive for those who want to adopt, and not possible for those who are gay or lesbian

Wow... I never thought I would star a question from an NRA proponent...

But this is a good one. It's a bit rhetorical but I always wonder the same thing...

It bothers me that there are so many people that argue against abortion but have no plans to deal with the welfare burden that comes from so many people having kids that they can't support...

Someone has to draw a line somewhere...

I'm sure that the answer from Joe Mama was directed at black people - which is not the case if you look at the numbers.
There are more white people in Red States on welfare... enough to double the minorities in urban areas of Blue States.

I believe it has something to do with the biological urge to procreate.

The subjugation of woman also affects this greatly. In nations and cultures where women are more equal, the birth rate drops. Clearly, women are more trustworthy when it comes to birth control than men.

Additionally, poverty has a strong effect on birth rates. The poorer a nation (or subset thereof), the higher the average birthrate.

Well, see, people get urges to have sex. Sex, as I'm sure we all know, leads to children. Also, some people are idiots and want to "start a family". They do it before they are ready, before they can afford kids.

For a some its for welfare, free healthcare and food stamps.

For others its because life threw them a curve ball and now they are trying to make the most of what they can.

That's those pro-lifers for you. Have those kids at taxpayer's expense, raise them at taxpayer expense and encourage them to follow in your footsteps. But don't look for any help from those pro-lifers, they're against that.
