I don't feel safe, but I don't buy toys either because I don't have kids.

Everything that was painted contained lead when I was a kid; gasoline had lead in it to prevent knocking. Lead was everywhere; asbestos was everywhere; people who are normal don't need to worry about it.
Pollution is a much bigger concern; most cities it is not safe to walk with all the cans, broken bottles, garbage and worse littering the roadsides and sidewalks. Not to mention polluted waterways and air...

Gritted teeth: MY ANCESTORS ARE FROM CHINA. THE TOYS R NOT SO BAD, EXCEPT FOR THE PIRATED VIDEO GAMES AND THE ILLEGAL VIDEOTAPING OF MOVIES THEY SELL ON THE STREET. THAT'S RIGHT, I'VE BEEN TO CHINA. AND THE TOYS ARE REASONABLY FUN, BUT THEY BREAK VERY EASILY. I'M NOT VERY HAPPY WITH THE LEAD, BUT MOST PEOPLE ARE POOR THERE. APARTMENTS ARE HOUSES, HOUSES ARE MANSIONS, AND MANSIONS ARE PALACES. AND THE FOOD IS FINE, OTHER THAN IT'S WEIRD STUFF.
