I have exactly the same problem. My head gasket is blown and my radiator needs to be replaced. It's a 2005 Nissan Sentra 1.8L engine with 60000 miles. The dealer is quoting $2200 to fix it with a warning that there may be additional charges if there is a warped head or cracked block. They can only know after they open up the head.
I spoke to Nissan Consumer Affairs. I am waiting for their call. Do you think they can help in reducing the cost of repair? I doubt it. Thanks

if you are getting quoted $2200 from a dealer for a head gasket job and a radiator replacement, be advised there will be additional charges. did they tell you the original reason the headgasket blew in the first place? $2200 is not alot of money when talking about those 2 repairs. you need to find out how it happened. if it was a coolant leak that was ignored then you will get no where with nissan. there are a number of vehicles within 1-2 years of each other that had issues with the headgasket. there were reports of a cylinder #2 misfire condition. apparently there is a weak spot on that area of the gasket on the 1.8l engines, or could be a design flaw. i think its a bit too early for any class action lawsuits to be inplace on a vehicle so new, but if you do get the vehicle repaired i would hold on to the receipt. more then likely there will be a tsb issued. i use a program called identifix at work, and it has a database that you can search, and there were quite a few cases where people would get a misfire condition and it was all due to a bad headgasket.

A 2005 with a bad head gasket? I would see if you are still under warranty. This is pretty unusual. Whatever you do....DO NOT add anything like "stop leak". It will only gum up other parts of your cooling system. Canned fixes like that are a poor substitute for a proper repair and can do more damage than good in the long run.

I'd repair it. If the mileage is low enough, say less than 50,000, then I would fix it. Keep the car. Considering how much gasoline will cost in the near future, you'll want an economy 4 cyl car. Nissan is a good brand & the Sentra is an overall good car. Unless of course, you simply hate it. G'luck.

well the head gasket would probably be less than trading in your car. and plus your car is pretty new so it still has a while ago. and! its a nissan.. even though its a sentra you can probably expect 100k+ miles without major repairs.

'05? Bad head gasket? Nearly unprecedented. Have that diagnosis double-checked. BY A NISSAN DEALER.
Nissan should cover that under MFG warranty, if indeed that is the problem.

i would think your warranty should cover that! check your owners manual. most cars have at LEAST a 3 year warranty (or more on most foreign cars which yours is'
check it out, repair it either way it will be a lot cheaper then trading it in. you don't necessarily have to have the dealer do it if it's not covered. shop around for a price. get opinions where to go.
I STRONGLY BELIEVE THAT THAT SHOULD BE UNDER WARRANTY.
good luck to you. in the meantime they sell a solution you can put in your radiator to slow down that leak or temporally stop it, if the cars still running. called "stop leak"

Fairly common job please check your dealership some times they will repair your car good will for free. 3 year old car you can make the point it should not need a head gasket so soon.
