My mother-in-law hit our car and there is about $1000 worth of damage. My father-in-law is dragging his feet paying us....he is saying "i'm not sure if I'm going through insurance or out-of-pocket."

I want to be fair to my wife because she is handling this, but I also want our car fixed. The accident happened almost 3 months ago and it is still not fixed and he has not paid us.

What can I do or say that is diplomatic that will get results, get the money for the repair, and move on with our lives.?

I would ask for the insurance information and have them pay to fix the car. 3 months is a long time and your father in law should have made a decision on if he was paying or reporting the claim. Also, I would tell your wife that she needs to talk to her parents about this as you understand it was an accident but, if they hit a strangers car this issue would be resolved by now.

Three months is a long time, Hon, and I'm wondering if your in-laws are postponing payment to you hoping that it will all "go away".
You've been more than fair, and infinitely patient. Since your wife is handling the situation, tell her that either Mom and Dad pay up (set a time frame) or you're going to file an insurance claim on the accident.
I understand that you don't want to create family discord, but truthfully---if your in-laws were acting decently, they would have paid (or made a claim) immediately.

I'm going to name you "divorced" should you stay rough hearted. Your father in regulation is telling you that he does not have the money. He's no longer placing it via his coverage for the reason that undoubtedly, he is received a top deductible. But you knew that, you are simply mad for the reason that your mom in regulation hit your vehicle. Be a person approximately this, and quit embarrassing your father in regulation. Get your vehicle constant, and inform him to pay you while he has the money.
