My friend just called me saying that her little girl, 6 month old, has a high fever (103,2). She got a flu shot today. Can the flu shot cause such a high fever or is it more likely something else? The doctor told her she might get a fever, but this seems to me be too high.

She gave the baby some tylenol and put her to sleep.

Did she give her Baby Tylenol and a cooling bath yet. I would try those first but I think I would probably go straight to the ER. That's too high for a baby. Anytime my daughter got any kind of shot she always had a little fever so, with the advice of her pediatrician, I always gave her Baby Tylenol before we even went into the office.

My son got a flu shot today and they told me to expect a low fever, but if it gets high to call or come to the er immediately. I would at least talk to the doctor.

Not abnormal. My first always spiked fevers like this after his shots, flu shot included. My second doesn't get fevers after shots at all.

She should be giving her daughter Infant's Tylenol, Motrin or Advil to bring that fever down. If it goes any higher, they need to be seen by a doctor.
