OK. Here's the deal. When you mention bagger units I presume you mean the ones that hang on the end of the tractor. There are basically two types: 1. gravity feed which is just sucked into the bag by the force of the blades. 2. vaccum type which has a deck mounted blower. This unit is usually a bit more expensive but packs more into the bag. However the gravity feed, in my opinion, does just as good a job for less money. You might even want to consider a "pull behind" unit which is also just as good for around the same price range.

The bagger unit will work fine provided that the grass is short and dry and you use the high lift blades. If you allow the grass to get too long it will not work as well. Also I have found that in the spring when the grass has a lot of liquid in it it doesn't bag as well as it does later in the season. Overall, I don't use mine much and would never pay $300 for another one. I use mulching blades and leave the grass on the lawn.

Oh, yeah. And with proper maintenance, the machine could last more than 20 years - ours did!!
