I'm not sure if I agree with your thinking. I know our country must come up with better rules for people who desire to stay in America but what of those who have been here illegally all their lives? If you want to do this, marry I hope, then your man may have to wait untiil you can produce a history and get him reinstated with a SS card. He may have to go to the authorities and be sent to Mexico until you meet the fiance perogatives. I am sorry about that but we can't have people runnning borders and just waiting for their children to be accepted as citizens.

My husband came to America within the accepted rules. We paid the government, dearly, and knowingly. I hope you can find a way to be together but please don't expect anyone else, who waited and did things legally, to be more than astonished that this situation is a problem. I truly wish you both well.

What State he's in is irrelevant for the SS card, that's issued by the Federal Gov't. He can go to the local SSA office with his US passport and get a replacement. If he's not a US citizen then his Mexican passport with his US visa showing proof that he's here legally and is authorized to work will be enough.

Likewise for his CA drivers License - just go down to DMV with the same papers.
