A box of candy, something for dessert, a bottle of wine...etc. I would bring something though. It shows class.

When students are invited to a professor's house they are not usually expected to bring anything. If you want to bring something, possibly bring a nice bottle of wine if it is a situation where wine would be appropriate. You could ask the professor if there is anything you could contribute to the occasion. Depending on the situation, you might consider some special food item if finger foods are to be served - a tray of cheese and crackers or a dip and veggies. Have fun.

If this is for a social gathering, try something that can be either eaten that evening or saved for later--like some chocolates, some nuts, or a bottle of wine (if you are of age and are pretty sure the professor drinks). Or, ask what you can bring and/or what's being served. If it is a night of appetizers, bring something that goes with them or a favorite appetizer to share.

If it's a class or discussion meeting, you probably don't need to take anything unless asked. If this becomes a regular occurence, you may want to offer to bring something if the group is open to snacking.

The last time I was invited to my professor's home, I took a baked Brie & Bleu en Croute (brie in puff pastry with bleu cheese and apricot jelly)--several people asked for the recipe. Another time I took cream cheese put pepper jelly over it and took some crackers for dipping--very easy, very good.

Good luck!

As salaamu 'alaikym, My friend,

Insha'Allah, bread and cheese are always nice, or cheese and crackers, a vegetable platter with a good dip. an ethnic food that might be something that the others might not have had the opportunity to try before, an assortment of herbal teas and some honey. For the hostest, flowers.

Insha'Allah, as a practicing Muslimah, you can not bring wine nor any spirits of that sort.

Insha'Allah, have a good time and be home early smile, so your not too tired the next morning for fajr!

(Yes, I am a "Daddy Man" as my daughter calls me...)

Ma'a salaam.

It may also depend on the type of party like a Christmas party or just a get together. If you over 21, a bottle of wine is a good option. Otherwise some type of dessert might be a good idea.

Absolutely go - and bring something simple,
perhaps organic veggies, or a non-alcohol option - like Cider, or a fruit juice/soda blend, in an attractive pitcher, or a healthy dessert. Colorful brain food...that goes with everything on a menu...is always appropriate.

You can never be to careful especially if you dont know the type of party so bring something safe for all. Either some soda or a fruit or vegatable tray.

Considering your faith I assume you don't drink, but you might bring flowers, a plant, tea, coffee beans or a box of really good candy. Think of something unique that represents you.
