Vapor lock is fuel vaporizing (turning to a gaseous rather than liquid state) in the fuel lines. Carburators on older cars and fuel injectors on newer cars need the liquid state in order to operate properly. It is caused by a combination of low fuel pressure and high temperature. The old flat head Ford V8's prior to 1954 were especially prone to it since the fuel pump sat on top of the engine and was subjected to a lot of heat. We use to use all kinds of tricks to keep from fixing the basic problem, worn camshaft and worn fuel pump. Guys would cut grapefruits in half and push them down over the pump. The evaporation kept the pump cool. They'd also clip clothes pins on the fuel lines to sink heat away from them. When it vapor locks, no fuel gets to the engine, and it doesn't run.

well vapor lock is when your fuel tank can not breath. not allowing fuel to travel through the lines to the engine

its caused from really hot temperatures outside,it causes an air bubble to form in the gas tank or line that blocks it from getting fuel, and will make it stall out ,one way to remedy it is to release the pressure on the gas tank and most of the time the vehicle will start back, not always though ,but extreme heat conditions out side cause this to happen most of the time, good luck on it.
