Simplifying
(3x^2 + 2x + 1) + (x^2 + x + 4)

Reorder the terms:
(1 + 2x + 3x^2) + (x^2 + x + 4)

Remove parenthesis around (1 + 2x + 3x^2)
1 + 2x + 3x^2 + (x^2 + x + 4)

Reorder the terms:
1 + 2x + 3x^2 + (4 + x + x^2)

Remove parenthesis around (4 + x + x^2)
1 + 2x + 3x^2 + 4 + x + x^2

Reorder the terms:
1 + 4 + 2x + x + 3x^2 + x^2

Combine like terms: 1 + 4 = 5
5 + 2x + x + 3x2 + x2

Combine like terms: 2x + x = 3x
5 + 3x + 3x^2 + x^2

Combine like terms: 3x^2 + x^2 = 4x^2
5 + 3x + 4x^2

Final result:
5 + 3x + 4x^2

Subtract from what? Or did you mean to have negative sign between two expressions instead of the positive sign?
