I have a pretty bad bladder infection and my doctor has prescribed Cefadroxil as well as Macrobid. Has anyone ever had to take these 2 together? I am always just so nervous and want to double check to make sure that they are ok to take. Either together or alone. I looked up the drug facts and it says to discuss the possible effects it could have on you and your baby, that always scares me when it says that. Just want to make sure they are ok to take.

Both of those are Class B drugs which means they are considered relatively safe for pregnant women to take, when the need arises.

Class B means:

1. Controlled studies done on animals in reproduction do not indicate risk to the fetus.
2. No adequate and well-controlled studies done on pregnant women

There are very few drugs out there that are Class A, which means they are very safe and many studies have been done. This is because it takes time and money to get the necessary research accomplished and sometimes they get conflicting results.

So consider Class B safe as far as the medical community has established. It's better to treat a UTI than to let it progress into a kidney infection which is dangerous to the fetus.

Don't get scared. All drug facts say that to protect the manufacturer's butt. They say ask your doctor so the responsibility is taken off of them and put on your md. If your doctor says it's okay to take and he knows your pregnant, and you have faith in your doctor, take the med. The rule of thumb is if the benefit out ways the risk than it will be best for you and baby.
Good luck!

Did you tell your doctor you were pregnant when you saw him/her for this issue? If you did, it would be a safe assumption that he or she prescribed the safest possible medication. If you didn't or you're still unsure, call your OBGYN and express your concerns.
