Who is your guy and why is he the best candidate?
Not why he is better than Hillary. Why should he be president?

2007-11-19 11:11:14 · 13 answers · asked by Schmorgen 6 in Politics & Government Politics

I didn't realize I was being so obtuse. The question isn't why should I not vote for a democrat (I'm an Obama guy, by the way), but why I should vote for whoever you think should win the Republican nomination.

The answers so far have been:
1. You hate Hillary.
2. You hate liberals.
3. You hate history books (no one remembers Bush Sr's recession? Which Democrat caused that one?).

I'll ask again: Who DO you want to be president and why is he a good candidate?

OOPS! I just gave the guy ahead of me a thumbs up thinking he was excluding Ron Paul for the right reason (I jumped the thumb gun!! ;o)
I'm sad that you didn't get any straight answers. I know it's because the republicans don't have a decent candidate and the ONE they do have, they disown and don't consider a republican (which will probably help rather than hurt him! )

In reality Ron Paul is the only decent republican candidate and that's exactly why he's excluded. He makes the other ones look bad and they don't take criticism very well. Fox and Rush make fun of him and call him a democrat. He's not a democrat and he's not a neocon. He is the best of both worlds and a very decent man. I know we're not used to seeing someone with his dignity in office of the rpesident before, but I think we're due for one this time. This time it really matters. This time, we the American people decide who the front runners are and they're not going to be Hilllary (a neocon in disguise) or Rudy the Joke.
Google and youtube ron paul and you'll see why moderate republicans and even liberal democrats love him.
Here are a clip I urge you to watch: It's informative but also very entertaining.

Before you watch this well loved congressman, who's a retired doctor, NEVER filed a medicare or medicaid claim on behalf of his patients so as not to burden the tax payer and he just forgave the bills from patients who couldn't afoord it. He gets more campaign contributions from military (active and retired) than ANY other candidate, meanign the poor souls just want to come home. For thirty years this a consistant and immaculate record. He's been married to the same woman for 50 years and he's voted down EVERY resolution for a pay raise for the congress. He returns a portion of his budget every year and was one of the only republicans who voted against the war FROM the beginning. He's not saying things because he's running for office. He's been living this way for decades. He's an honest man. He's a smart man. We deserve a man like him running our country.

That's a good question, and you can already discount any comment that have the following comments:

1) Hillary being a socialist (she isn't and she's arguably the least left-leaning Democrat in the pack, if anyone ever bothers to look at her voting record. Heck, even Rupert Murdoch and other corporations are givin' donations to her). If you're equating more government control = socialism, then George W. Bush is the biggest socialist of all, with his wiretapping, flouting of constitutional principals, and disdain for any government transparency.

2) people in her party can't stand her (so then why is she leading in the polls so far if she's so darned unpopular)?

3) she's unelectable (many polls against likely GOP candidates show her beating them by several points).

Let's face it, the GOP has a heck of problem because they're saddled with Bush policies that are very unpopular yet are stuck supporting them. The fact that they are reserving such invective for Hilllary is a sign that they're SCARED, desparate, and know she's a pretty formidable candidate.

Any Republican (Ron Paul excluded) is better than the top Democrats who are all in favor of hire taxes, and socialized medicine, open borders, and weak defense.

The fear is that higher taxes will place us into a place we don't want to be.

Stagflation (a combination of inflation and recession / depression), caused President Carter to coin the term "misery index".

The standard mortgage interest rate in the late 1970’s was 18%. It was normal to wait in line for gas for hours, the price of which had doubled.

We were getting ready for an Ice Age (ie global cooling).

To "fix" everything, taxes were raised again.

Things didn't really improve until Reagan implemented huge tax cuts.

He was not the 1st to cut taxes; Actually the largest tax cuts, percentage-wise in modern times, were made by President Kennedy. That's how much the Democratic party has changed.

Just compare his inaugural speech ("Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.."), to the chants of liberal democrats today.

Now a typical liberal believes the government should care for all their needs.

The fear of electing any of the Dem candidates is Big Government, that will try to “take care” of us, instead of getting out of the way, so we can succeed on our own.

I cannot afford the democratic ideals so the rebubs are more in line with my own conservative thoughts. I work hard for all that I have and share plaenty of it too, I want to have the discretion as to who and where my money is going , that will not be the case with Hillary or any other Dem. I am looking at all of the candidates with a fine tooth comb at present that way I pick the person that represents what I would hope will take place in the future. If you don1t mind giving away your finances and future wellbeing and security , vote for the democrat of your liking but don1t complain when the new taxes kick in.....My 2c

I haven't decided which I will support. The Republicans did not start campaigns as early as Democrats. I am hoping one will float to the top and I can actually vote FOR a president instead of against Hillary or Obama. Socialism is not good for anyone.

Looks like either Republicans can't read or they don't have anyone whom they can confidently say that he should be President.
I feel sorry for you. I think you will only get Prepackaged Hate Messages which they have heard from various Hate Profiteers such as Druggie Rush, Fox Noise and Man Coulter.

LOL - ROFLMAO

You can't get them to say one positive thing about their own candidate!

The only thing they know how to do is bash Clintons!

Quite simply because you being in charge of your life is far better then the government being in charge of your life - its that simple. The left candidate (probably Hillary) will assume more control over your life through taxes, government programs, regulation etc. The right candidate (not sure who - but all advocate) less government control over your life, less regulation and ideally the ability to afford more of what you want instead of what the government demands you have.
