My opinion on the meaning of lilfe is that there is none. The closest thing to a purpose to life is to be happy, that is have those chemicals running through your body as much as possible. And...if you feel particularly nice (hopefully you do), it's also to make other people happy, and to reproduce also hehe =)

The purpose of human existence is whatever nature choses. We are still performing some function for the universe so we as a species are still here.

The purpose of your life is whatever purpose you give it. If you are waiting for some divine answer or a moment of inspiration you may wait for quite sometime. But if you pay attention to yourself and are completely honest with what your likes, dislikes, passions, and detractions are then you will be able to select a path for yourself which will suit your personality not someone else's mold which results in personal happiness, the purpose for doing anything.

Life has no purpose or meaning unless there is God. Those who say life has none have already rejected God and now they have to deal with a meaningless existence. They will tell you how they cope, i.e. the mental crutches they use, to deal with it. Generally they will say, "keep busy so you won't think", "focus on happy thoughts so you won't think", and "do something praiseworthy and pretend that it is real purpose".

Natural processes such as evolution cannot give purpose. Evolution can no more give us purpose than a river can give meaning to a ripple.

Only God can give real purpose as per this noted atheist:
“Unless you assume a God, the question of life’s purpose is meaningless.” –Bertrand Russell

But if God exists, then there can be real meaning and real purpose and we don't have to invent pretend-purposes. God doesn't tell us directly our purpose because He intends our first purpose is to seek Him.

Humans are meaning making machines. If you are human, you already have definitions of "the meaning of life". Each of us is unique. We live by the truth of our meanings and definitions or, we sell out and use others' perspectives - no authenticity there, what ?

As to the purpose of Life. You came into Life with that written into every bit of DNA. Get quiet, meditate with the intent to know your purpose and VOILA !

The purpose of "one's life"? or the purpose of YOUR life? There is no "one", that's just a way of talking. But there IS a you! Pay attention to your life, as it unfolds, minute by minute. You won't be able to do it but if you can, if you try to be aware of yourself minute by minute, there may come some point when you suddenly WAKE UP! This is a very long study. Don't expect results, just try to be aware of yourself as much as you can and as often as you can. The aim is to actually KNOW yourself.

The answer to Life, the Universe, and Everything is 42. However, what we really need to know is the question that goes with the answer.

(Sorry, couldn't resist. For those of you who don't know, I'm refering to the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series by Douglas Adams.)
