NOT a surprise. Rivera wants to pitch in the New Yankee Stadium, the Yankees need a closer. Perfect match.

He would have been pretty unwise NOT to take it. I'll give the Yankees some credit here. They didn't play any games and wouldn't allow themselves to be taken hostage. They laid a more-than-reasonable three year deal on the table for Rivera and said "This is it; take it or leave it." More teams should try that. I think Mo's got enough in the tank for 1 or 2 more good years. Three might be pushing it. With BB players his age, its kind of a crap shoot-they sometimes get old real fast.

think it's too much money for a 37-year-old closer coming off his worst season, but then money isn't really a great concern for the Yankees.

Rivera seems to have lost a little something off his cutter, which should be a concern. Who knows, maybe he'll rebound in a big way next year, but right now it just seems like more than I'd want to give him after his 2007 season. I guess it's all just speculation until next spring.

I think its reat. He may be coming off his worse season, but his worse season was still a very good season. He still has alot to offer the team.
