Alright, everyone's right; the answer is 5530. This can easily be done with a calculator, and I trust you know how to do that. If you want to do it by hand, then here's how you do it.

1. Write the original equation.

790
x 7
--------

2. Multiply 0 and 7 ( 0 x 7). You get 0.

790
x 7
--------
0
3. Then multiply 9 and 7 (9 x 7). You get 63. Since 63 is larger then 9, you carry the 6. Write 3 as part of the answer.

6
790
x 7
--------
30

4. Finally, multiply 7 and 7 (7x7). You get 49. Then add the 6 that was carried on (49 + 6). You get 55. Write that down in the answer space.

6
790
x 7
--------
5530

Learning the fundamentals of mathematics is very important. I suggest you dedicate some time and seriously attempt to understand multiplication. I'm sure you teacher will be willing to help.

You're not dumb!

790x7 = 5,530

First multiply the 7 by the 0 = 0 in the one's column
Then 7 x 9 = 63, put the 3 in the 10's column in your answer and carry the 6 up to the 7.
Then 7 x 7 = 49 plus the 6 you carried = 55, put that answer down and you have 5530!

Viola and Good Luck!

Okay, here you take the 7 times the zero first, then 7 times 9 and carry your 6 over the next number 7 and add the two then multiply that by the 7 and you have your answer. Try putting it down on another piece of paper like this - 790 and I'll bet you will know what to do. x 7
I wouldn't call you dumb! Hang in there!

790
x 7
--------
5530

IF YOU'RE WONDERING HOW I DID THAT...

First you multiply the 0 by the 7 on the bottom, equaling 0. Then you multiply 9 by the 7 on the bottom, making 63. Write down the 3 and put the 6 on top of the 7 on top. Afterwards, multiply 7 by 7, resulting in 49. Add 6, making 55.

Put all of those numbers together and it makes 5530!

And you're not dumb; you just had a little mind lapse, didn't you? We all do once in a while! ;o)

XOXO,
Laurie

For large numbers you can always reduce them to simplier numbers:
790 = 700 + 90 + 0 or
790 = 700 + 90

Now you can just multiply each part individualy by 7:
7 * 700 = 4,900
7 * 90 = 630

Add the two answer together:
4,900 + 630 = 5,530

Which means: 790 * 7 = 5,530

In which class are you studying?
The multiplication was not in the school?
If we answer in the Yahoo answers, actually we are hurting you, not helping. So please learn it from your teacher. Otherwise you will go on copying from YA, but what will you do in the school test? You are not dumb, but more intelligent. That is why you took this easy cut. Remember, this technique is hurting yourself.
Best of luck. The problem has been solved by many. So I need not do it again. Please don't feel bad. Take it in the real spirit.
