i dont understand all these kids that complain and cry about being cyber bullied...
1st off...if you have a myspace or similiar type of page on the internet, you are setting yourself up! people can easily find you and knock you down...so dont have one then!
2nd...i grew up in an era when the 'bully' would come right up to your face and infront of others either insult you or beat you up...i feel that is technically a lot more damaging and to be feared than what some morran writes about about you online...
these kids who claim they are commiting suicide due to what someone bulllied them online about are already problemed and just need some other excuse...
so what do you think about it?

well to rebuttle some of your answers...actually i was bullied very hardcore as a child..might be why i can be so reactive today...
but say someone made a page to defame me...honestly...i would find out who that person was...and infront of as many people as i could have around..i would punch or strike with a baseball bat that person right in the face

Hello,
I had my 3 o'clock highs back in the 60's and had to face up to bullies as well. I am not talking about knives or guns but bullying is part of life sure as pigs have piglets. If you live in a beautiful magic garden scenario all your childhood and teen aged life where you are loved unconditionally, you would have a savage rude awakening when you entered the real world where problems from facing bullies at work, in the military, IRS, loss of job, marriage difficulties, economic set backs etc, you would not be able to cope at all with life and either have a nervous break down or become suicidal. In short, it can strengthen your character.
Suicide depends on the individual person; perhaps a mental disorder due to biochemical problems rather than depression or bullying. I have seen people in my years who killed themselves for not passing entrance exams to medical school through to others who did themselves in for the loss of a boy or girlfriend yet others I saw who went to death camps in the war, reduced to 90 lb skeletons, demeaned and saw their loved ones killed yet survived and 20 years later were prominent business and community leaders.
Cheers,
Michael Kelly

Cyberbullying doesn't just affect your Internet life. Imagine if you were a teenager and you discovered that some of your classmates had created a webpage that was devoted to defaming you. (And believe it or not, you don't have to have your own email address or website to be the victim of a cyberbully!) Imagine how you would then be treated by your peers at school after they saw the website! You don't exactly strike me as a sensitive or feeling sort of person, but I still imagine that you don't enjoy being defamed or slandered in any way. A person has the right to not be bullied physically or psychologically or online or offline. Anyone who dares to bully another should always be SEVERELY punished!

No, you're wrong. Bullying anywhere is wrong. The computer has become an integral part of peoples lives. Some obsessive bullies take it to a whole new level and can create havock or ruin peoples reputations, harass and annoy people online just as much as offline. It can escalate to online. What you claim is debateable. You must have never been 'bullied' or you just dont get it. But i also somewhat agree with you on you should not let it effect you as much but sometimes its unavoidable. It is not an excuse. Bullying anytime is wrong.

I don't think anyone will think cyberbullying is not mean and lame. But, on the contrary, cyber bullying is by no means controllable right now and is not technically illegal.

You must have been the bully! I don't care if they bully you to your face or do it on the internet, bullying is wrong and can have life-long effects. Ever been a teenager? Things are always worse in a teenager's mind. There is no excuse for bullying of any kind, so stop giving cyber-bullies an excuse.

This issue is being examined throughout society in universities, in scientific research, in corporations, governments and even at the U.N. The Internet is a brand new cultural institution with unknown territories, including presumed anonymity. As you said, facing a bully in reality requires a different set of behavioral responses than does facing an anonymous bully on the Internet. People have traditionally blocked morons and vandals and trolls and "juvenile delinquents" and other such disruptive / destructive people from arenas of civilized discourse in reality.
But, the Internet is a horse of a different color and it is has few effective methods for filtering out the morons. It's like a public restroom rather than a polite boardroom, and the possibility of running into socially screwed up people is wide open. In a way, I harbor a seed of hope about that openness. Part of me thinks it's high time for boardrooms and political committees and other such elitist smoke-filled rooms in which the course of humanity is determined to finally have to include the voices of ALL of us, including the morons.
Part of me also is observing for changes in the learning curve for morons who may gain maturity and balance by participating in public discourse through Internet communities. I subscribe to the belief that humans seek balance and that through adequate social interaction people can grow more balanced.
And, you are absolutely correct about suicide. Anyone who would consider harming himself or herself over pixel slobberings is predisposed with inadequate coping skills and other psychological impairments.

Anyone who bullies is amongst the lowest life form on earth. Cyber bullying and stalking can create just as much damage.

I just think that some people are a bit too sensitive but then again if someone harasses you it could be damaging to your emotions and just because its not right up to your face that person could still embarrass you.

Bullying is always wrong. It does not matter whether it is face to face or on line. There is simply no valid excuse for it. Bullys are simply despicable. *sm*

I think that hurting other people for no other reason than you can is evil. I hate bullies and I hurt them every chance I get.
