Now, if Pettite could come back, and we could sign another starting pitcher . . .

We kind of do need a starting pitcher, in case if things go south with Mussina, and Clemens is gone.

The Yankees are still going to go after Santana. I hope they don't give up Cano and key young pitchers.

I'm glad he's back. His contributions to the New York Yankees, the city of New York and Baseball in Panama over the past 12 years have been excessive. He and Trevor Hoffman have redefined the closer's role for future generations and will continue to influence baseball's youth today and tomorrow.

Andy Pettite may come back now that he knows his games will be caught by his friend Jorge Posada and his games saved by his friend Mariano Rivera. This move is very important to our team, but it does not settle the on-going problems we have in the starting rotation and middle relief. Rivera can stem the bleeding until then.

1. Rivera is a first ballot hall of famer 5 years after he retires. 2. There is a debate as to whether Yankee closer of the late 70s and early 80s, hall of famer Goose Gossage, was better than Rivera. I don't know and won't give an opinion. 3. I was cheering for the Mets, being a Red Sox fan, but I didn't mind seeing Frankie Rodriguez humbled by walking Rivera in the 9th and then striking out Teixeira. 4. You Yankees fans also must be happy that Wang did well for a change.

This is a good deal. As much as I want the Yankees to get younger, an experienced closer is necessary now that the offense looks to take a hit with A-Rod gone. Pettitte would be a nice veteran presence, considering guys like Hughes, Kennedy, and Chamberlain will become more of a part of the rotation.

As for trading for Santana... As much as I would hate to see them trade good, young position players (again), if they did it for Santana I think they would be justified. Johan is by far the best, most consistent pitcher in the game, and he isn't even that old. If they could keep Hughes and one more young pitcher, then they could be in business even with the decline in offense.

Its all Pulling together? Are you kidding me it's the same team!

You MIGHT get a great pitcher in Santana but you will have to give up one of the brightest young stars in the game in Cano. So, how are things getting any better? Yankee fans are blind I am afraid.

Remember this is the exact same team that lost out in the ALDS. Things have not gotten better.

Its all good. Mariano may not be the badass that he was 5-7 years ago but he can still bring the heat. I was glad I also heard they were going to resign Viscaino. He did a terrific job as a step guy. Now only if they can get rid of Farnsworth. He really really sucks. i wish they would trade him back to the Tigers. Listen even if Andy doesn't want to come back we're stoked at Pitcher. Imagine a rotation of Mussina, Chamberlain, Kennedy, Hughes and Wang. Not too shabby and the kids can bring the heat. Yes Santana would be icing but DO NOT TRADE CANO OR MELKY OR CHAMBERLAIN OR KENNEDY OR HUGHES OR WANG. With Alex in the house - Bring it on!

I hope pettite can come back, but the move of getting rivera back, with the original offer is good for the reputation of yankees, Rivera, neither look greedy, or bossy, and both kept it nice, and it was a very good signing on both parts.

Not to throw cold water on your parade, but the Yankees still need another quality starter that can actually produce in the post-season.

It's a good off season though. Your team has done the major things they NEEDED to do. Now it's time for some tweaking.

waste of money, he's old and now the teams highest paid pitcher, but the Yankee's got money to burn and hope to top $200 million in payroll in 2008 with Posada, A-Rod, Rivera and future overpaid starters yet to be signed.

I'm not a Yankee fan, so I'm glad to see them re-sign Rivera for more money than he is worth. Yanks in trouble in the ninth.

I'm not a yankees fan but that was a dumb move he sucks he is getting old. His arm is slowing down so much his cutter is becoming very hittable and he doesn't have a good second pitch.
