You can break your hymen a number of different ways, including sex, masturbation (inserting something, not just external stimulation), horseback-riding, an accidental fall or impact, or other rigorous activities.

No, they will NOT ask you if you masturbate. They honestly don't care. They will probably ask you if you are or have been sexually active - not to embarass you or because they are nosy, but because it makes a big difference to what you've been exposed to and what tests they need to run.
If you want, you can ask that your mom not be present and that the results be discussed only with you, not her; but depending on your age and the laws in your state they may have to tell her certain information.

Yes, a Pap smear is awkward and uncomfortable and not much fun. But so is cancer. So it's much better to suffer through one awkward test every few years to make sure you're healthy and treat anythign that comes up immediately, rather than find out too late.

Also ask about the HPV vaccine, very important for young ladies.

The doctor will not know if you have had sex or masturbated before unless they ask (see below) because the hymen (the thin layer of skin around the vaginal opening) can break for many reasons. Mine was broken because of having my first pelvic exam and pap smear at age 18. Also, some girls and women are born without a hymen.

They can ask if you are sexually active but the reason they do that is to get more information about your overall medical history and they are used to seeing all kinds of things.

All the pap smear is is a special kind of test to screen for cervical cancer. They take a special brush to take some of the cells from your cervix to have tested by a lab. They are checking to make sure there is nothing out of the ordinary with the cells there. The results come back in about 2 weeks. If you notice some spotting afterward for a couple days this is normal because of the irritation caused by the special brush used to take the cells.

It is understandable to be a bit nervous the first time when having this done but if your mom is having you see a gynecologist for this I would recommend a female physician. It makes the experience less embarrassing the first time around. You can also make the request that you want to talk to the doctor in plainclothes first before anything is done. If the doctor is really good she will answer any and all questions that you may have and also make you feel relaxed about this.

Relax- they won't be able to tell. Some girls are born without a hymen so that is not the only factor they will look at. Regardless, they will ask you if you have had sex. Be honest- They won't judge you. Your doctor won't have anything to say about masturbation because it is not important to your sexual health. It's only once a year, and if you are uncomfortable with the idea find a female doctor. Best of luck to you... it's really not that bad.

Just got done with my first one. They wouldnt be able to tell if u masturbated. I done it plenty of times and all she asked me was you and you partner.. (yes my boyfriend came by the) have had sex? I said yes we have. She didnt talk about any masturbating or anything. They can only see if your hymen in intact. Some girls are virgins and without it hun. You will be ok trust me. I just went today. You will feel some pressure. The first time, I think.. it feels awkard, but she asked if I was ready and I knew if I wanted a baby I have to do it. So I sucked it up and I felt better that my boyfriend was there. Just make sure she uses the small one. The large one hurts.. doctors tried before since they said they had "only the large one" request the small one. She will then put it in water like mine did.. thats warm. Then insert it in you, you will feel mild pressure. Then they swab you thats uncomfortable a tiny bit but it will get better later on. Then they swab again and again. Once done she will put jelly on her fingers and insert them to fell your ovaries etc. Mine was normal! Before all this they do your weight and blood pressure. Dont worry about it hun.. if you stress over it it will make it worse.. Good luck hun! Email me if you have questions and/or email me and let me know how it went. <3

Honey your doctor could care less what you do with yourself when they are giving you a pap. They just scrap a lil off your cervix. They actually try to get it done as quickly as possibly so dont worry about what the doc will see or know. They wont ask you about masturbation. The doc may as if you are sexually active, but your mother does not have to be in the room when you get the exam done if you dont want her there.

Your hymen can be broken by anything. Exercise, gym class, tampons, anything. A broken hymen does not tell the doctor that you've actually had sex, nor does it tell the doctor that you masturbate.

Masturbation is expected. It's normal. It's not something the doctor would even bring up, either to you or to your parents. Nothing he could see in his exam would tell him that you do this. However, it is just taken for granted that you do, because everyone does. He will not bring it up to you or to your parents. Don't worry.

A Pap test can save your life. It can find the earliest signs of cervical cancer - a common cancer in women. If caught early, the chance of curing cervical cancer is very high. Pap tests also can find infections and abnormal cervical cells that can turn into cancer cells. Treatment can prevent most cases of cervical cancer from developing.

Getting regular Pap tests is the best thing you can do to prevent cervical cancer. About 13,000 women in America will find out they have cervical cancer this year. And in 2004, 3,500 women died from cervical cancer in the United States.

I think, you should get your pap smear. Your mom trying tell you what you should to do. She is right.
