With all due respect to the first 7 answers, there are only three species of bears native to North America:
1. Grizzly bears - Ursus arctos
2. Black bears - Ursus americanus
3. Polar polar bears - Ursus maritimus
Brown bears, kodiak bears, and grizzly bears are the same species, just different local names.

north America is very large and has all kinds of different climates. The bears are a perfect example of the different climates. Because of the different types. For example the polar bear-lives in very cold arctic climate, and eats animals from the freezing water, and sleeps on ice. The grizzle bear(which has different kinds, colors, and some are endangered) live in the warmer climates, along with the black bear. Information like this is actually very easy to find on yahoo search, if you want to know more.
