It is true that a large population of illegal immigrants are Mexico or from countries in South America. They come here because there is poor opportunity and little money to be made in these countries. To fix the illegal immigration problem, is there anything the U.S. government can do to help Mexico and South American countries, or pressure their governments to do something about it?

Get out of your USA prime privileged position in your own minds and start thinking genuinely about all of the American people as equally deserving. You're country is based on gun law and the subsequent violent oppression of your indigenous people and your neighbours. Ok, nobody wants to hold grudges but please get over it and start thinking global cooperative rather than global domination. The days of Billy the Kid and General Custer are over, the badlands were in fact the good lands. Put your comic books away and listen to your neighbours, if it hadn't been for all the European cultures which decimated the indigenous cultures of all the Americas, you would not be so superior and they, the Mexicans and South Americans, would not be so economically inferior. Give Peace a Chance!

The illegals are 95% of them from Mexico and Central America, only 5% are from South America. I'd be glad if you find out that Central and South America are not the same thing.

No there's nothing the US can do to help or pressure the governments to do something about it. It's funny how you Americans talk about country's poverty as if it is something that can be fixed in 5 years. No, it's not, it's a long process. Latin America (I guess that's what you mean with Mexico and South America) poverty rates are going down and down. But it's a long process, not something that will disappear in 2 years if "South Americans start taking care of themselfes" or whatever passes through your empty minds.

Something that would really help is if the government of the US start having more strict gun control laws, because almost half the gun crimes commited in Latin America are commited with guns buyed in the US and lately smuggled to a Latin American country.

Haven't we done enough? I'm for building a barrier 25 feet high that runs straight along the border from California to Florida that will keep all those individuals from Mexico and South America out of this country. Those latin countries bring nothing but drugs and criminals to the U.S. The good people that come here legally from the south are in the vast minority.

No, they can do next to nothing to help. We have programs with Mexico but the government is very corrupt and we can only do so much. Most of South America is Socialist and will not accept any assistance. These are all solvent nations and have know right to interfere in there policies. Peace

No. We have too many problems with them anyway. Those countries are trying to bring down the United States. Many of our jobs are going to them here and abroad. Mexico is trying to screw us over and we are still kissing their ***. They have resources in Mexico so why are they coming here. Why is the poor ones coming here and not the rich ones. Why are the idiot illegals coming here but not the professionals. They are bringing down our country and taking care of Mexico. Many of the illegals are making money here and sending it to Mexico. Some places in California are even taking their currency. We need to get a grip.

Yeah, we can put an end to our domestic farm subsidies. It undercuts the farmers in the rest of the hemisphere. People south of the border can import our agricultural products cheaper than they can grow their own. This puts so many of them out of work and they come here. I don't like the illegal aliens coming here but they do have a point. It is a matter of survival for them.

The U.S. govt. should pressure Mexico and Colombia to adopt a decent minimum wage. No excuses. A Mexican Minimum wage of only $2.00 per hour would stop most illegal migration. Most Mexicans desperately accept wages under $1.00 per hour just to eat.
I mention Colombia because 3million illegal aliens are from South America, and most of those illegals are from Colombia.

The U.S. should worry more about helping themselves first because last time i check the US dollar was dropping lower and lower by the day and the richest companies in the world are moving their currency to Euros. We also have debts like never before. We should stop making money like we have the funds to back it up.

Yes they could do a lot here in the states ......like hold up old treaties for the true Native Americans for starters. This country isn't doing as well as it should for its own fellow men and women....what about jobs here in the states? or health care?

Here is what we can do. Nothing. Let them fix their own problems. They have been exporting their problems over the border in the form of poor people for decades. Stop the invasion and let them fix their own economic problems without the aid of NAFTA and U.S. companies who send jobs south of the border for cheaper wages, and no EPA regulations.
