He actually assigned us a whole project for this 5-day weekend that involves at least 10 relatives. Well, at least 9, if we participate in the experiment. Except most of my family lives in a completely different country and probably don't even remember that it's Thanksgiving because they aren't American. What should I do for the assignment??

There are two options 1. You can say that you had relatives over or 2. you can invite some of your parents friends and say that they are your family.

You need to ask for an alternative assignment from your teacher. Perhaps something which would educate him that there are other cultures out there which don't celebrate thanksgiving. (Tongue in cheek suggestion)
Seriously, explain that your family does not celebrate thanksgiving, and you would be unable to complete the assignment as given. Offer an alternative, perhaps a holiday you celebrate which is similar to the intent of thanksgiving, like a harvest celebration? Or a founder's day, or something similar.

I guess that would depend on the assignment. Do the best you can with the people available. Maybe you can do part of it with some neighbors or friends that aren't actually family members.

Did you talk to the teacher? Does he know you don't have that many people in your family? Did you say, "Could I speak to someone at church instead? How about the lady next door to us?"

It's almost always best to think first, how can I handle this on my own, then check with the authority.

Explain to him your situation- most likely he will make some changes to assignment for you or let you do friends of the family instead of relatives. Talk to him, you might be suprised at how much he is willing to help you. Good Luck

your probably doing gene tracing through your relatives. since this can't be done through friends, just have as many relatives participate as you can. then, have your parent or guardian write him a note explaining why you couldn't do the experiment up to his expectatoins because you didn't have enogh people. if you aren't doing gene tracing, ask friends or other people, but make sure to ask your teacher first.

explain it to him before the weekend... if not, go talk to a bunch of friends over the holiday, (if you e-mail what the project is to me, i might give it a try, i have a HUGE family that comes over on thanksgiving...) and i'll try to give it back to you Friday or Saturday, so you don't have to worry about me not giving it back...

specific it is. there is not any regulation requiring you bypass to thanksgiving dinner! i've got started skipping christmas those previous few years, and while my family contributors asks why I merely say "by way of fact i prefer to". That way it does not start up stupid drama.
