black friday is the day after thanksgiving... supposedly, the biggest shopping day of the year, and it's called 'black friday' because the profits for the stores go into the black instead of being in the 'red'. :) yes, go shopping!!!! things are much cheaper!!! lol

Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving in the United States, where it is the beginning of the traditional Christmas shopping season. Since Thanksgiving falls on the fourth Thursday in November in the United States, Black Friday may be as early as the 23rd and as late as the 29th day of November.

Black Friday is not an official holiday, but many employers give the day off, allowing consumers to get a head start on their Christmas shopping. Retailers often decorate for the Christmas season weeks beforehand. Many retailers open very early (typically 5 A.M.) and offer door buster deals and loss leaders to draw people to their stores.

Although Black Friday, as the first shopping day after Thanksgiving, has served as the unofficial beginning of the Christmas season at least since the start of the modern Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in 1924, the term "Black Friday" has been traced back only to the 1970s. "Black Friday" was originally so named because of the heavy traffic on that day, although most contemporary uses of the term refer instead to it as the beginning of the period in which retailers are in the black (i.e., turning a profit).

It is the biggest shopping day in America, almost ever major store has big sales. Many store have sales that only go for a few hours, like 6am to 9am. It is the UN-official start of the Christmas shopping season since almost everyone is off from school & work.

Black Friday is the "first shopping day of the Christmas season" and falls the Friday immediately after Thanksgiving. A lot of stores have early openings and GREAT sales... BUT for me, I'd rather save my sanity and pay a few extra bucks for stuff! Unless you know exactly what you're getting and what store you're getting it from, I don't think shopping that day is worth it AT ALL.

There are a lot of good deals that day because the stores know that since it's right after turkey day everybody will be in the holiday spirit from being with all of their family (those with a big family to be with that is) and with so many people to buy for they want to get the most bang from their buck.

Black friday is when stores put almost everything that they sell on sale, and the reason it is called black friday is becuase that is the only day that stores will actually make a profit and will be in the black not red which means they lose money.
