If you don't have any estate documents drawn up, then the authorities will go to your next of kin to make decisions. That, presumably would be your parents if you don't have a wife or adult children. At 18, that last item is rather moot.
Therefore, you do need to draw up legal documents to name someone of your own choosing to be your guardian/conservator/power of attorney/executor/trustee to care for you and your estate should anything happen to you. You name or choose whomever you please as long as they also are over 18 and don't have any personal interest or stake in your care and keeping. If you name your best friend as your executor and also name him as your sole beneficiary, then there is an obvious conflict of interest that will raise suspicions. I know that families do that all the time but the law carves out an exception for families supposing that they would not take advantage of each other. We all know that isn't true either.
Bottom line, should you get a lawyer to help you draw up the necessary documents? Yes!

you are 18 and legally an adult. You can go to an attorney and get a living will made and then it is still you making the decisions even if it is after death. Also you can get paperwork drawn up designating someone else to make your legal and medical decisions if you are unable to.

Actually...What you need to do is stand up and tell your parents you're leaving and they can't stop you.
Here's the thing. You need to show them how wrong they are about all the things you argue about and get out on your own and show them.
You see, they believe they have certain rights to tell you what to do because they are supplying you with certain things.
Food, shelter, clothing, transportation and stuff like that.
But they don't understand how that stuff is of little or no importance and anybody can get that stuff....No problem!
I mean, think about it, how hard can it be?
If a couple of dumb shits like your parents can get that stuff how much trouble would it be for someone like you?

I'm telling you.
Move out!
Show them that you don't need to take any of their crap.
If you got a job and your own place NOBODY would tell you what to do.
Piece a cake and it will certainly teach them a lesson.
Who needs em?

What you need to do is get a will made up, so there is record of whom you want to be power of attorney. You can do this yorself, but if you have worries that someone is trying to kill you to get to whatever you have. You should definately get an attorney. The attorney will keep a copy of your will in their records. Maybe you should consider moving far away from them to keep from being so paranoid. Good luck to you.

First of all you neglect to mention how old you are.

Secondly, you can legally give your power of attorney to anyone you wish but if you are a minor then you need to go before a court and explain your specific situation.

It will be also be costly. Most attorney's don't *make friends* with their clients!

How old are you?

The process is pretty simple if you're 18 or older, but much more complicated if you're still a minor.
