You sold tickets to the school play. Advanced tickets were $4. Tickets bought at the door were $5.50. Total ticket sales were $440. Let x represent the nuumber of advanced tickets sold and y represents the number of tickets sold at the door. Write an equation to represent the number of tickets sold.

Here is my equation : 4x+5.5y=440.

then it asked me to find three possible numbers of advanced tickets sold at the door.

first possible answer is all tickets are advanced tickets

4x = 440, so x =110 and y = 0
then you subtract 11 tickets off x
4*99 + 5.5y = 440 y = 8
continue with subtract 11 tickets off x and add 8 to y.

You pick any three numbers to represent y.
0, 2, and 4 are easiest.
Then solve for x with each number
