I start putting up decorations the week of Thanksgiving. I've seen several people that put them up the begining of Nov. I find nothing wrong with this, and personally think it looks nice. Why do so many people feel that it is distasteful and needs to be done the 2nd or 3rd week in December? Its not hurting anyone. Its not costing anyone else, anything. If you don't want decorations up yet, don't put them up...but why do so many people have to complain about those people that do have them up. I've seen so many answers & remarks on here & other sites saying people should do the "decent" thing and wait until mid December. When did that become the "decent" time for decorations? How do you feel about Christmas decorations???

Also, some people say that it takes away the "special" meaning of Christmas if it's done "to early"...but isn't Christmas about celebrating Jesus' birth, and should we celebrate Jesus each and everyday?

I personally decorate in November, because I think it looks nice...I love to see the lights, and to just sit on my sofa and look at the tree and think about the year that will soon be behind me...to me it is not only about celebrating Jesus, but about celebrating my life & my families as well. I say to each his own...I was just wondering what other people out there thought....Thanks for the input everyone!

Well I for one see nothing wrong with it.I know alot of people this year who just need a little boost,or just a small something to get them through the season because their year has been that bad and they all say the lights are cheerful and make them think on other things than the bad times they have just came through. My neighbor just in front of me died Saturday,he was bedridden and he could look out the window at my yard which we just decorated and my dogs antics gave his day alittle meaning.Something more than tv,I am sad although he had a long life he was 86.So when I see the decorations up early I say their is someone in need or they just truly love Christmas, and all its meaning.God bless.

In my family the tradition has always been Thanksgiving, everyone is already there and it beats the after turkey nap or football game. But I think the reason most people find it offensive is 1) it cheapens the holiday.. too commercial, and 2) it cut Thanksgiving out of the equation all together! It's a personal decision, but for me Thanksgiving is plenty soon enough, that's still a month to enjoy it all, and most don't take them down til New Years.

There are two main objections to putting up Christmas decorations so early: If you are already celebrating Christmas, you are ignoring Thanksgiving and if you spread the Christmas season out so long, it kind of dilutes it.

But, more important is your general point - why do people care when you put them up? Do whatever makes you happy. Too many people worry too much about what other people do.

There is no decent time to put up decorations
maybe 2 months ahead is a little to early but a month early is fine,I personally leave the small christmas lights on the window all year long(they're off of course) but that's beause I'm too lazy to take them down, lol But if they're up earlier you don't have to stress out on putting them up later
I think people say you should wait till december is because christmas is so late into the month you know?

Christmas decorations are so expensive, we may as well at least get a month out of them. I usually put them up the weekend after Thanksgiving and think nothing of it. I don't really decorate outside much at all, so no one even knows I have already decorated unless they come inside.

i understand the wanting to celebrate the birth of Jesus everyday.. but also see the decorations to early point.. some people are just trying to rush through life to fast.... i want to get through Halloween without Turkey and through Thanksgiving without Christmas trees... so my attention isnt divided by trying to cram 2 holidays into 1

So, if your neighbor put up halloween decorations while you are putting up christmas decorations, you would not mind, right?

Its not hurting you. Does not cost you anything. You don't have to put up halloween decorations in November.

The thing about christmas decorations is that people are putting them up earlier and taken them down later. Christmas is pretty much a 3 month holiday to some people. Some people find christmas to be more special if it is limited to only one month.
