You did not say what would be going into this drain. French drains are merely a hole filled with stone to prevent puddling of water or used for discharge of a water source.

I agree with Sensible, and wonder often why askers don't add details. Hole or Trench, what is the intent? Beyond that; why the feeling for the need for a French Drain?

you should expect a hole or a trench filled with gravel and maybe open ended pipes, which may or may not be 'connected' to a mains system.

What to ask depends on why you are doing somthing which you appear to know nothing about.

expect it to chicken out when the going gets tough, and will probley come with a maid,
get an American drain,
