and where do you live now. Have you any regrets or would you recommend it. If you haven´t moved abroad do you wish you had the opportunity.

This is an interesting question. I am tossing up where I actually want to live when my Seniors Pension comes through. I had to catch a cab, (I'm a South African, living in Australia), the cabbie was from Uruguay. He told me that, many American ex-pats are living in Uruguay, because their dollars go much further then. So does the Australian Dollar.

He then gave me some very valuable information, i.e House on the Beach $45,000 ($US). Fresh food & veggies and meat, "much" chaper than Aussie and the USA. New Cars are 1/2 the price. And to add to that( not that it means too mucc), they even issue you with a Nuruagy passport, and let you keep you own as well.

I went onto the Net and did some investigating of my own. And looked at picture, prices of food and housing. He was right.

He said he would go back , but his wife likes Australia, and all his family are here. Information for thought!

I don't know that it's a good idea to retire abroad. A lot of people have this idea, that they'll go and live in a place that looks so nice in the brochures, or they've had a holiday there and loved it. Not good reasons to move away from everything you've ever known ! I've travelled all over the world, but I'm now living in what I consider to be the best place on Earth, and for that reason I'm staying put when I do retire in 2 and a half years ( not that I'm counting or anything !). We've planned pretty thoroughly regarding our finances, and I'm working for a bit longer to make sure that the world financial problems are pretty much over before I retire. We know how much we'll need to live on, but your situation could be a lot different from ours. Talk to a financial advisor, but don't take their advice as gospel - do your own research, too. Ask a few Q's on YA financial section ! Oh, my answer to your first question....Queensland, Australia. Best place in the world !

Not yet, but I'm taking Spanish lessons because I'm thinking of moving to South or Central America from the US. I don't like the direction the US is going politically, plus I hear it's cheaper to live there. With 2 divorces, I don't have a great retirement package. My guy wants to travel the US in an RV when he retires in the next year or 2, so we'll probably try that first.

Well, I am a retired "broad", ha ha. I was born and raised in So. California, and still live on the west coast. But if I had my druthers, I would very much like to move back to the SF bay area. Aside from that, I would love to visit Australia and the British Isles, especially areas near the ocean. Nice question, so STAR for you!

I am thinking about it, and have looked at a few places (Malta,Cyprus,South of France) but even though the weather may be lousy and some say the country is going down the tubes, I still love London, and would miss my family and friends.

I wish we could, but we left the big city and retired here, so now we are stuck, and the family is around. I would have to find different veggies to grow, and number one priority would be ; are there golf courses there.

I wish! I would love to have retired abroad...either in the south of France or Italy or in St. Martin, FWI...alas, my family is in the DC/MD/VA area so here I am - probably to stay...unless Prince Charming comes to rescue me and has enough bucks to afford to send me home or my kids/grands to where I live OFTEN! LOL

If I could afford it. I'd move in a minute. Some place I have relatives like Greece or some place warm like the West Indies.
