Found out I was pregnant last week - 1st positive on Monday 2nd positive on Thursday night and Friday AM - Went and got blood drawn on Friday afternoon. Just got results back today. Something was a 73 - I am guessing how early I am @ 2 weeks - and my progesterone was 9.3. She is having prometrium filled at my pharmacy because she said that the #'s arent as high as she would like them @ 11 or more. I just recently went through this or something simular back in August as we lost our baby @ 5 weeks. Had very low #'s from the beginning starting off with a 5 progesterone level at this same time. Are these results I received today horrible? Am I going to go through what I just did a couple of months ago? Doing some research online and it is saying I am @ 4 weeks pregnant by my #'s. Could the blood test be off a little. 1st sono is December 11th

The HCG levels vary greatly, so don't assume anything more about them then what they are. The number itself isn't as important as much as seeing that HCG level doubling every 48-72 hours.

The progesterone is okay, a bit low but certainly not dangerously low--but your doctor is definitely wise to get you on progesterone right away. The good news is, progesterone is something you *can*fix!

Just sit back and relax, and don't anticipate the worst. Just be sure to get that progesterone started and stay on it, and get a repeat beta to see that the HCG numbers are climbing. The number itself cannot date a pregnancy--it can just give you an idea about where you might be, but there isn't an exact chart.

73 is likely the quantitative HcG level, which is perfectly fine (you are close to week 4 based on the quantitative number i.e. 2 weeks post ovulation). Given early pregnancy, hard to be more precise than that. The number is perfectly fine / within range.

Doctors like to see progesterone levels higher than 10 (preferably 10-20 in early-pregnancy). The progesterone levels increase as you cross the first trimester (once placenta takes over), but until that time, some women may need progesterone supplementation e.g. the prometrium. Very important that you keep taking this until 12 weeks at least (we used progesterone suppositories). This can significantly reduce miscarriage risk in first trimester. The placenta takes over production of progesterone by that time.

The ultrasound seems to be around 6+ weeks, so you may even see a heartbeat this time! We did see hartbeat at 6.5 weeks, but not the case for everyone.

Congrats and good luck.

If you're only 4 weeks then those numbers aren't terrible. No the blood test is generally very exact. With the supplement it should help carry the pregnancy until the placenta takes over. So did your progesterone raise form 5 to 9.3 or am I reading this wrong, as long as the numbers are rising it's good.

What really matters is that the numbers double every 2-3 days. If they repeat the test and the numbers are going up, then I wouldn;t worry.
