The race doesn't have to be just black. Any non-Caucasian race will do.

If you are a African American like me, then most will say an African American.

If you are a woman, then most will probably feel that having a woman is more important.

I personally think America is far too racist to ever elect a African American President.

Just listen to the racists in this forum, it gives you an idea of just how sick America really is. I would say 99 percent of the racists in this forum are conservatives, but there are handful of Democrats as well, who share their racist feelings.

How about a Black woman President|??
Suffice to say nowadays, despite the race, someone who's intelligent and to move the country forward and progress to the point where there are significant changes.

i would settle for a qualified President. The selection we have right now does not give me a warm fuzzy on that note. The ones with any true potential to lead this nation are shuffled to the bottom of the popularity pile.

Why not try to elect a qualified President? Interestingly enough, neither the black nor the woman candidate is.

Black or White, Male or Female this next Pres is going to have one H--l of a mess on his or her hands.
Deal with the mess this current administration has made in the world especially Iraq and the terrible debt they have created
Social Security in the next 4 to 5 years is about to explode with the baby boomers about to retire.
Illegals and illegal immigration which is now a bigtime issue, one the Mexican Govt. would like us not to use during the up comming election.
And finnaly health care, the worst in the world, for a so called, !st world country.
Who ever does win it, I say, " God Help Him/Her"

neither, really. just a POTUS who will actually protect and defend the Constitution of the US

actually - there is value in having someone of a different gender or background/ethnicity than every other POTUS we've ever had before - but I think neither is more important than the other.

and ultimately, my first answer is the only real criterion.

I think it would be especially good to have an African-American president as a role model and to show the world that we are truly a united country.

Maybe I ought to write in Bill Cosby !

I want a qualified leader. I care very little for what race or gender they are.
