I was planing on geting a PS3 this week, but the 399.99 one that is the downside version of the 499.99. I was simply wondering if I could play my old PS2 games and my DVD's as well as Blue Ray?
Plz don't tell me how the X-Box 360 is better or worse because I have already made up my mind. Plz just stick to my question. TYVM.

I have actually just found out that the 399.99 PS3 can't play my old PS2 games but the 499.99 can. What about the DVD's.

The 40GB PS3 has Blu-Ray, it can play DVD's, CD's, but it can't play PS2 games, it can play PS1 games, and it has built in WiFi. The 40GB PS3 doesn't have the digital camera flash card slots and it only has 2 USB ports.

Even though the 80GB PS3 is backward compatible it isn't as backward compatible as the 20GB and 60GB PS3's because they have the Emotion Engine chip built in. The 80GB PS3 uses software emulation to be backward compatible.

The 80GB PS3 is backward compatible with both PS1 and PS2 games, it has 4 USB ports, it has built in WiFi, and it has the digital camera flash card slots, it has Blu-Ray and can play DVD's and CD's.

u cannot play ps2 games on the 40gb version. sony thinks people dont want backwards compatability. they also thought we didnt want rumble and now they r putting out a new controller in spring with rumble becuz we freakin want it. goes to show just how much they know about us. with that said id buy the 60gb version if u can becuz it has the emotion chip in it which plays ps1 and ps2 games. it plays more of them than the 80gb version becuz the 80gb has software and not the chip.id like a ps3 more than any other system.

Get either the 60 Gig which is the best because it has hardware backwards compatibility, or the 80 Gig. The 40 and the 20 are not backwards compatible at all.
