Belichik's play calling was absolutely legitimate. Being ahead so comfortably, he simply did the thing that would cause the most time to burn off the clock. A field goal does not take time off the clock. Also, if made, it allows for returns, which could mean your opponent in good field position. Going for it, on the other hand, means that either you make it, and therefore are able to waste more time, or you don't, and your opponent starts with garbage field position, which means that he must drive the length of the field, which also wastes time.

There is no comfortably ahead. The Buffalo once overcame a 35-3 defecit to win. Billy's just making sure that isn't going to happen on his watch.
I bet Buffalo fans weren't talking about running up the score when the Bills beat the Raiders 51-3 back in the 1990 AFC championship game. That's even more lopsided of a win than the Patriots got last night.

Why Not ?? What is this game all about if it isn't to win? It isn't about not running up a score, Its about the other side fielding a team which will prevent you from running up a score. Were you comfortable last year when the Pats did not have the personnel ? So Kraft got the players he needed to fill the gaps and so far Belichick( whose the best coach around) has used them to advantage. Don't be so naive to think no team other than the Pats steal signals. As to whether the play calls were legitimate if the result is as intended the play is legitimate. Ask yourself " when is a play not legitimate?

The thing is the Bills r no match 4 the pats. So the pats have nothing better 2 do except score. Besides its all part of BB's
"Big Plan" I don't understand this either but it has something 2 do with preporation 4 the SB. He didn't explain it well. But he's trying to get them use to scoring big especially against the good teams.

It is a display of the arrogance of the Patriots. Have a comfortable lead and run the score up. This team has no class. Tom Brady needs a season ending injury. Hopefully from the Steelers or Dolphins.

One was a fourth-and-goal on the 2 yard line
The other was in that weird area (short punt/long field goal/may-as-well-go for-it area) around the opponent 30-yard line.
Bottom line, who cares: The Bills were clearly in the toilet by then and hey, it was TWO fourth down opportunities by the Bills to stop the Patriots and they simply couldn't.
There was a darn FIFTH string running back in against them and they couldn't stop him either.

I am from Boston and I am a life Long pats fan
If they kicked a field Goal that Would of been running
up the Score because that does not give the opposing
defense a chance to stop them. Also they only punted
20 times this year. The pats punter was finally able to
get his stats this year. I hope no one out there expects
them to take a knee. THAT WOULD EVEN BE MORE
EMBARRASSING, then Getting another touch down.

Its eaither go for it one 4th and short or kick a chip shot field goal. He is giving the defense a chance saying "hey, get some pride out of this at least and stop us on 4th down" I hate Belchick as much as anyone, I'm a Browns fan, but i don't have a problem with him doing that

Just look at Belichick... doesn't he look like one of those people who would do anything to look like the dominate team by a uncatchable shot? For Example... CHEAT! He's not smart.. it's called put in some 2nd/3rd string players and and keep your starters from getting hurt for a game that matters.
I think anytime you have 90% chance of wining by the 4th quarter you should do so.

It was running up the score. They were winning by like 34+ points and went for it on 4th and 2 on the Bills 20 yard line. Any other team would have kicked the field goal. I am not saying that running up the score is bad or anything, but it is quite obvious that that is what they are doing. They did NOT have to go for it on 4th down, and that would be a questionable call in a close game, let alone a game where you're blowing out the other team.
