what makes celebrities any more special than anyone else?

im so tired of reading things in mags like britney spears takes out her trash just like you! or Paris hilton takes a morning jog just like you! THe media should channel all of the power they have into something constructive like IDK world peace or cancer research or the war not OMG celebs breath air just like you.

I agree with what you're saying, but remember: the media is giving people what they want. If there was no demand for these sort of stories, they wouldn't be reported on.

Sadly, a lot of people spend more time with the television than they do with their own family. So they come to think of the celebrities as "friends" and want to always know the latest dirt.

But I wouldn't worry about it. Just avoid the types of shows that report this gossip. Listen to NPR (or similar) instead.

1. Don't read those magazines.
2. Don't be part of the "adoring masses".
3. Realize that commercial media in the U.S. don't deal with real news. They deal in things which can attract a crowd that the ads can sell stuff to.

Do you buy any of the products that advertise in these mags? If so, you're part of the problem.

They aren't any more or less important, they are just popular at the moment and for some reason people enjoy reading about them.

but that wouldnt sell that many mags and the ppl behind them wouldnt get paid (as much).......unfortunately no one seems to care about things like world peace or curing diesease, we (as a society) would rather know what JLo had for breakfast or how much Tom Cruise is paying Katie Holmes in divorce settlements.....funny how things work these days eh?
