Sometimes I look at the state of things and want to give up! There seems like way too much to do and not enough time to do it in. So I end up inviting someone over for coffee tomorrow. The prospect of having guests forces me to prioritize and start the cleaning with the most obvious stuff first. Once I get on a roll it's easier to do the less important things after the worst stuff is taken care of.

I am w/ you on this. I love to have a clean house but I can't seem to get up. But I've found that once I get up and do one thing (like something that I have to do) I start seeing everything else i have to do and I just get going. Sometimes I just go from one room to the next because there is so much. And yeah, crank some music. That always makes it easier. There is nothing more rewarding than getting the house clean and setting down in a clean room w/ some candles lit (maybe have a glass of wine). Wow, maybe I'll go clean now.

Get cleaning items that are actually fun to use. They are less functional but it should get you in the habit of cleaning.
I was the same way, so I bought:
The tablets for the dishwasher, they had bleach and something else in it so the dishes actually got clean.
To clean the floor maybe get a swiffer sweeper, to clean carpets get a vacuum that is bagless so you can actually see whats on the floor (this should scare you into vacuuming more lol)
Make a routine day into your schedule (mine is Saturday since I work M-F) If you know what day you have to clean then the rest of the week you dont have to worry about stressing yourself out, except for dishes which should be done at least every other day.
Good luck, and remember to have fun.

Sometimes I will see how much I can get cleaned in a certain amount of time. For instance, if its 3:30, I will see how much cleaning/organizing I can get done by 5.
I also have a one touch system-touch it once! If you pick it up, put it where it goes, not in another pile to sort through later. This way everything gets done and put away the first time you pick it up..

Clean things as they get dirty, rather than wait for the whole lot to build up. I don't like cleaning either, but it's a whole lot less scary to do it that way!
And yes, if you have a deep cleaning that needs to be done, get yourself that reward too: A cup of special coffee, a call-out pizza, or even a movie works wonders.

When I don't feel like cleaning, I turn on HGTV and watch those organizational and decorating programs. Every time I see a wonderful, clutter free clean room, it motivates me to make my space reflect who I am and the life I live rather than the dirt, clutter and dust that is there. Works every time..

Figure out what needs doing, then sort the list. First, do one of the chores that you hate. Next do something you don't mind doing. Then back to one of the things you hate. And turn up the music, not the TV. You won't be tempted to stop and watch!

lets see, when you start seeing roaches, climbing over all you food, mice pooping on the table, spider webs on every thing, dust so thick you can write your name, in it. a damp moldy, musty smell, stinking dishes in the sink,
