Tony Romo, Big Ben, David Gerrard, Bret Favre, Jeff Garcia, Hasselback, Kitna, are all having better seasons than Manning. He won a superbowl, and has the single season touchdown record (for now), but is he really much above average?

Colts girl, getting a little testy aren't we? I'm not hating Manning, I just wonder why everyone thinks he's so great, he's had great years, but this isn't one of them! This year he's average.

Manning is nothing special without an all star team around him. And now that he doesn't you see what happens. That's a fact Jack!

He's one guy on the team, and the WRs, RB, TE, OL and the defense have been a huge part of the Colts success. As is now evidenced by their recent shortcomings.
He's a very good quarterback, who looks even better with the all-pro supporting cast around him. Now that some key people are injured, the Colts will have to switch gears a lot and that will come down to playing more multi-dimensional (forced to play this way), then still good execution (6 picks - lookin' a little bleak), and the coaching is going to have to step up too (again hard to say if this will happen either).
All these have to come together, in order to have a chance at a repeat. The good news is for them is the Steelers lost (of which only the most beligerent of Jets fans would've said they predicted).

He is certianly an above average QB, but I have never thought that he was as amazing as people said he was. He has always had that high powered crazy offense that has really helped him out. His offensive line gives him years to throw. His receivers are all super studs, AND he has a good TE and a solid running game to support him. I definently don't think he is amazing, but he is still above average. His accomplishments are great. With a couple of key injuries, he is being exposed as a flawed Qb. He always has been, but it's been a while since his talent level as died down.

Wow, Peyton Manning is having a bad year and every one is all ver him. The team is decimated with injuries which would affect alot of QBs. He could still bounce back from this. Next year Manning will be back to his old self and looking a lot less like Eli.

Yeah, and according to your logic, Chad Pennington is the 13th best QB in the NFL... and yet he can't seem to hold a starting job.... strange...
Oh, and also Manning's 87.2 QB rating is higher than Brady had in 3 of his seasons... meaning that if Manning is average, then Brady must have been below average those seasons....
And according to your logic, Brett Favre must have had an "average" career because his career rating is an average of 85.6 (which is lower than Manning during this "bad" I mean "average" season). Jeff Garcia's career qb rating is an 87.3. Clearly he's had a better career than Favre.... at least according to what you are saying.
So Manning is a 7 time pro bowler, is ranked 9th all time in completions, 11th in yards, tied for 5th in TD's, and is 12th in attempts..... so if Manning is average or just above average, than everyone who has ever played in the NFL who accomplished less than he has in his career up to this point will be "below average." That means that essentially every QB ever to play in the NFL is average to below average because Manning is on pace to break every major statistical passing record....
of course, he's just an average qb tho.

6 picks against him by the SD CHARGERS? Yes, Manning clearly isn't anything special without good recievers to prop him up. That's another reason why Tom Brady is the top QB in the league. Last year he had some average WRs and he was still awemome this year he has the BEST WRs and he is breaking records almost every game.
I'm sure COLTs fans have an excuse for that article too though. They seem to have one for every occasion.

Yeah...he's average QB who happens to own the record for most production (TD passes) in a single season. Granted that record may fall this year....but I'd say Peyton's a great QB having a lower than average year.

Manning is a great regular season QB, a lot of injuries right now for Indy.
We'll see if he can have a good post season, I don't like him as a big game QB.
If you look at his play off numbers they aren't that strong, including his super bowl appearence when they gave him the MVP and totally did NOT deserve it. It should of went to one or both of the RBs but the league wants to have their golden boy.

First off Kitna is not having a better season than Peyton. Second off his rating is 87.5 that isn't a GREAT rating like Tom Brady's but it is certainly above average.

I guess even average quarterbacks can lead a team back from an 18 point deficite in an AFC Championship game if the opposing qb is Brady. BTW - Manning has been top 2 every other year for the last 7 years. But, whatever makes you feel better.

He is an above average QB having an average year. Funny how we give the QB all the glory when a team wins. This is a perfect example of how it hurts if you don't have that supporting cast.
